Depends on the school as well as the students in that particular class. This probably doesn't vary as much in larger high schools, but it makes a lot of difference smaller school districts like mine, where I graduated with just over 30 students.
Anyways, yeah, I'm guessing the QB pickings weren't real great out there at this point, so the staff identified a quarterback who may not be ready now but is certainly projectable. One of those things where he more than likely won't play at all until he's a junior (don't expect JT or AA to get unseated). He looks like a good developmental guy and Herman can mold him the way he wants. Kind of needed a QB in this class, but we had a chance to not have to look for an instant impact, rather a guy that can fit how we need him to.
Even if you don't care, you should be able to get at least a 3.5.
There are plenty of kids in my school with 4.0 or very close to 4.0 who never study and don't do homework.
High school is really easy to get by with a 3.5 unless you do absolutely nothing, or just aren't smart at all.
A 4.0 takes some effort.
A 3.0 student tends to be the kid that just wants to enjoy high school.
My GPA in college is considerably better than it was in high school. Either way, GPA is fairly irrelevant.
We did need to sign a QB this class with Bates leaving. This guy doesn't seem that bad. It'd make me feel better if he had more (any?) offers but oh well.

This is the generation that is used to awarding 20 trophy's at an event vs the old 3 that that I remember.

Honestly it depends on the school, and upon what classes you take, there are huge differences from school to school. For instance when I went to HS they adjusted grades(to get rid of the fact that there were 14 valedictorians, the proceeded to make it much tougher to get a high gpa and thus a 3.0 the proceeded to be top 50% of the class whereas 3.5 was the previous mark. Calling your 3.5 equivalent to another schools 3.5 is like saying if UNI went 10-3 that its equivalent to ISU going 10-3, different play fields.
That's just the opposite of how you should really feel! A small high school where a kid pulls a 3.0 is not good. It would be impossible for a good athlete to receive less than a B at a school like this. Oh well, I'm sure he'll work out
I've been out of high school for 20 yrs and my GPA just dropped .5. The things some use to find fault on here amazes me.

Interestingly enough they ran the Tony Franklin system at the high school in Penn. Obviously Franklin was the OC at Auburn last season. It seems to me Herman and Rhoads went and found a guy who knows the system comparable to the one they will run to get as their QB. He is obviously not a guy with a lot of stars, but he has a good knowledge of the spread offense and he has a good amount of talent to work with. Capello won't be a guy looked to be the guy until he is a junior or senior unless he shows he is better than Tiller. I really like the get looking over it. I think this will be a kid we can really develop over the next several years.
Yeah, on his highlights video, he's constantly dodging and weavin' and ducking and rolling out . . . he does have good feet. On one pass completion, he's rocking back on his rear foot yet launches a long pass.
I recall that Chizik said the no. 1 quality that he looked for in a quarterback was the ability to elude defenders. This kid appears to have that, plus a nice arm.
Isn't Lebanon, Pa., known as the cradle of quarterbacks or some such? Isn't Namath and/or Theisman from the neighborhood?
Last thing, on his Web site, James lists himself at 6-1 1/2 as opposed to the 6-0 on recruiting sites. . . .
You guys are deriding a kid for having a solid B average? Good god, half the time we're praying for kids to qualify and pass the clearing house and now some kid who's going to show up with no academic questions is being torn apart for having a 3.0? We need something positive to happen in ISU sports if our negativity is driving us to this.
Come on, I had a 3.0 in high school and never once tried, I am guessing this guy is much the same. He is an elite football player in high school standards, I have no worries about his mind.
I had 2.2 until I got my **** together and upped it to a 2.8 in high school. I went to ISU for four years and finished with above a 3.0, I think I made it just fine without doing outstanding in high school. The thing is some kids don't try in high school. That was my deal, I had no motivation until I was a junior. I just didn't really care. The thing that matters is will this guy make it in college. Lets judge him after he gets here, which looks like will be the case.
