ISU lands a QB Commitment

In that article it did indicate he had offers from Central Michigan and Bowling Green - not exactly Texas and Oklahoma but there was some interest!!!!

One thing to not, in the local article it speaks to his stock may have been higher with a better supporting cast. When i've seen that before, the kids have come in, worked hard, and actually performed better then had been expected because they have more talent around them and them just seem to blossom!!!!!

Lets hope his senior year he goes off!!!! Before then will be AA and Tiller time!!!!

The kid is from PA, a lot of good QB's have come from there. Time will tell, he shouldn't have to perform for 3 years anyway

Thanks for the link!

From the story, great stats, including a 67.5 percent pass completion rate:

Capello had a dynamite senior season piloting Lebanon's 'Air Raid' attack, completing 220-of-326 passes for 2,897 yards and 31 touchdowns against just 9 interceptions last fall, leading the Cedars into the District 3 playoffs for the first time in the history of the program.

He also rushed for 792 yards and 8 scores, and accounted for 39 total TDs.

Capello was named First-Team Association Press Triple-A All-State, and also made the PA Football News.com and PA Football News All-State teams. And he was the L-L League Section 2 First-Team QB and was the section's Outstanding Back of the Year.

From reading espn's take on him, it sounds like a Todd Reesing.
Evaluation

Capello is not going to blow you away with his quarterback measurable but has a bit if that "it" factor and just has a knack for making the big. Looks a bit shorter than his listed height but has some bulk to his frame to help with durability and he is deceptively very athletic. Does a good job feeling the pressure and buying extra time in the pocket. Improvises well outside of the pocket when the original play breaks down. Throws well on the run displaying good wrist snap and downfield arm strength. Very slippery to wrap up when he keeps it on the ground and flashes some foot-quickness. However, he does not drop or settle in the pocket smoothly as a drop-back passer and is much more productive as a scrambler. Lacks good balance as a passer and we would like to see him step into his throws and avoid throwing off his back foot. Shows above average downfield arm strength but struggles with accuracy and tends to wind up lacking natural zip on his passes. Could struggle to fit into tight spots of coverage at the next level. Overall, Capello grows on you the more you watch on film and could be productive in a spread offense at the mid-major level. Has some intangibles that you can't coach.

Hey guys I'm a freshman at Nebraska from right around Lebanon and I thought I'd throw my two cents in about this kid. First of all, I went to the game at Ames this year and had a great time. Had me scared there when you scored on like the second play of the first half. Second, that totally sucks with Chizik but you guys deserve someone who really means it when he says he wants to stay in Ames and hopefully you got that in Rhoads.

Anyway... To clear up some things I saw before in this thread. Lebanon is not really a "powerhouse" of athletic talent. They've had their fair share of talent over the years but not every year. The most famous alum from there is probably Sam Bowie. (The guy picked ahead of MJ in the NBA draft). Second about the GPA stuff. Lebanon HS is at the bottom of the county every year in test scores. It's not a great academic school.

He was a stud junior year but he did drop off his senior year. Everybody kinda picked up on thier offensive scheme. They ran a very Texas Tech like offense and I'm not really sure if that's your guy's plan. He also didn't have a great supporting cast but one of his wideouts made one of the all-state teams. Not sure what it was, (First, second, third)

Also, I heard from some of his friends that Mizzou and Penn State were showing interest with letters and stuff but never pulled the trigger. Part of the reason he wasn't highly recruited was that the Lancaster-Lebanon league is not exactly a powerhouse. He also is a stud on the basketball court too. I played against him last year and can't remember him being as good as he is playing this year. He's 5th in the league averaging 17.2 points a game. In fact the other night his team lost to another city school and he had 40 in a losing effort.

Hope he plays well at I-State, just not when he plays the Huskers. But on second thought, anybody can tear our secondary apart.

Also, this link might show more info on his stats

sorry to get so many people worked up, i just questioned how smart he was considering that you need to be a good decision maker at the qb position. just trying to figure out why he hasn't gotten so much interest and thought maybe his decision making wasn't that great.

OK, so lets add Capello and SJ to the basketball roster. If the guy can score 40 points in a game, he must have some stuff.

Thanks for your insight, BUT....from that article I posted above:

You're saying he had better numbers as a Junior?

You're fine. Sometimes, you just don't know how people will respond to a given post. Apparently, you had the right post at the right time.

Yeah the herd instinct kicks in and once he brought up the grade questions, people started sounding off on that issue and not necessarily this kid...

In order to question how smart he is, how are you able to make a reasonable judgment based on GPA alone? Did he give two hoots or only one hoot about academics early in high school, or, did he work his butt off and 3.0 is his best?

Could it be he took some tough college prep courses for which he doesn't have aptitude but struggled through anyway, e.g., trig and calculus, or whatever?

I am an East Waterloo, Iowa, grad. My sophomore year -- the first in East's six-year undefeated streak, the QB was Obert Tisdale. He matriculated at Iowa State and later went on to a USAF career, retiring as a colonel, iirc.

My senior year (Jerry Moses was a junior), the QB was Dennis Hankner. He was not academically . . . gifted. But, he was a very fine quarterback, he had athletic smarts and instincts, and did an outstanding job on the field.

Is that Lebanon high school run-of-the-mill academically, or is it superior?

All sorts of factors involved in making such an assessment as you attempt to make.

Well they recently installed that new offense and everyone was like well let's see how this really turns out. He ended up blowing minds and everyone was like well you know you know he's gonna be amazing senior year. Granted, he did very good, but I think more people expected like a 4 star ranking and every "system" school to be throwing offers left and right. He's not even the best QB in the Lancaster-Lebanon league

All good points.

I still think it's a travesty that they won't let kids play now if their high school grades are not to a predetermined level. Every kid is different and while some are gifted academically(I was), others are not. Some kids are gifted athletically(I was not!) but don't have brains.

Those athletic kids should still get the chance to play on the field. By not allowing them to, you're putting a gate across a path that could take them to a better place. I wonder some times how many kids we're leaving on the steet now because of that silly rule...

Looking at his stats, 2900 passing yards (67.5% completions), 31 TDs (only 9 ints), 800 rushing yards and 9 TDs, plus, based on his 10-minute highlights video, a fine ability to escape pressure, hard to imagine what else this kid could do to achieve a high ranking.

If pre-season expectations were for a four-star ranking, imho, the kid performed to that level. If he was considered that good as a junior, cannot see how his senior performance was a disappointment. Apparently, it was. But, hard for some of us to understand.

Not much recruited? That's fine. If our coaches offer him, we're damn happy to have him.

Looks like PR is using some old Pennsylvania connections. Nice to see. This is an area of the country that we have never had much connection with in the past. EUI has done a good job pulling some kids out of PA in the past and maybe we can nab a few good ones out of there too.
