Would you rather have UNI's tv package? They currently have 3 games on mostly state-wide tv (Fox in E.Iowa and C.Iowa), and a game on CSTV. A couple of those games will also be aired on FSN Midwest. Right now ISU only has one game on ESPN.
When they made the playoffs last year, they played on ESPN family of networks 3 straight weeks. Would you rather have guaranteed tv games on state-wide television, with one guaranteed game on national tv...or would you rather have one game on national tv, with the potential to have a couple more on national tv, but also the potential to go "0-fer" on tv games, depending on how you play? Honest question.
I'd be surprised if KDSM and KFXA cover more than half the state, geographically. It's a great move for Drake and UNI, as it's an in-state game. Neither school's stadium holds more than 15K anyway. As for CSTV, that game will not be shown live, but be tape-delayed to 10 p.m. the night of the game. The two games to be aired on FSN MW will be done so on tape-delay at 2 a.m. on Sunday after being aired live on KDSM/KFXA.
ESPN has a contract with the NCAA for the I-AA Playoffs, hence the games were televised. Most of the first couple of rounds were on a regional basis, which is why the state of Iowa got to see UNI -- whether it was on ESPN2 or Mediacom 22 (via ESPN+).
The ISU-Iowa game is guaranteed to be on ESPN. The ISU-Texas game was moved up a week to 9/23 for the purpose of TV. As it's the only conference game that day, it should pretty much get the top Big 12 TV slot by default, which could very well be 2:30 ABC, but no worse than FSN. That's two TV games in the bag already.
Looking at the layout of the conference season, as well as the number of defined TV windows to this point, I'm willing to bet that the ISU/NU and ISU/Tech games will be televised, by either ABC or TBS. Those are both arguably the second-best Big 12 matchups (as of now) on those days. Even the ISU/OU game could be in the top 2 on that day.
That's two games guaranteed, with very good chances for three more. As long as ISU keeps winning, they keep looking more attractive for TV.
