I have not seen any recent updates on potential incoming transfers for football. I am not even sure I heard of any commits so far this year. Can anyone provide updates? I'm sure there may be a buried thread somewhere, but trying to get some recent updates.

Iowa attempted to right their wrongs on offense through the Portal rather than coaching changes. We did the opposite. Only time will tell if either did enough.

Iowa has the benefit of a D that can win them the West with even a few pts per game improvement.

ISU plays a much tougher schedule so we need more overall help.

that's really simplifying it and sort of unfair. You, yourself, keep telling us we don't have the money to play in the NIL game, so how exactly did you expect the transfer portal go for us?

What's this even mean? We have gotten 3 good transfers so far. Not being able to match the NIL offerings of other schools doesn't mean we can't get transfers.

I’ve always said that would be our biggest avenue to struggle getting players so unfortunately it went as I expected. We’re far more likely to lose those battles because they’re established guys that have a lot of NIL offers. We still win some either because lesser proven talent or system, playing time, location, etc.

I was just saying it’s two different approaches (regardless of if we could help it or not) and only time will tell which option makes the most difference. Not criticizing our effort, though that was also part of the issue as the staff prefers not to use the Portal.

Iowa will likely look more successful simply because of their ass schedule.

It’s going to be interesting. The transfer rankings are messed up since half of them don’t have an actual ranking. In terms of # of commits, here is how the 2023 Big 12 shakes out.

Oklahoma State & Cincinnati - 12
Oklahoma & UCF - 11
Kansas - 10
Baylor - 9
West Virginia & Houston - 8
BYU & TCU - 7
K-State & Tech - 4
Iowa State & Texas - 3

We’ll see how it shakes out, but it’s interesting to see the last placed team have the fewest people transferring in and if that is offset by where returning production might rank?

For anyone curious, that writer is pretty behind on landing spots for transfers out, but here is where ours have ended up:
  • Jayden Gray, DE (Three-Star) – Louisiana Tech (Conference USA)
  • Deon Silas, RB (Three-Star) - Rhode Island (Colonial Athletic Association - FCS)
  • Mason Chambers, DB (Three-Star) - Incarnate Word (Southland Conference - FCS)
  • Blake Peterson, DL (Three-Star) - South Dakota State (Missouri Valley - FCS)
  • Tristan Michaud, WR (Three-Star) - South Dakota (Missouri Valley - FCS)
  • Hunter Zenzen, LB (Three-Star) - North Dakota State (Missouri Valley - FCS)
  • Sean Shaw Jr., WR (Three-Star)
  • Tayvonn Kyle, CB (Three-Star) – Virginia (ACC)

We didn’t take a big hit if they nearly all went FCS

It looks like some schools are using NIL money to bring in new players, whereas others, like ISU and Texas, are using it to keep their good players on the roster. I suppose either way can work.

I think CMC develops a strong relationship with his team and prefers to keep the people he brought in originally than to have to buy a new roster every year. I think it is certainly the more admirable thing to do. But as we know, wins and losses will tell the tale.

You are using Texas as an example of a school that uses it to retain instead of recruit? Lol

Regardless, **** Iowa is always the answer.
