Does Fareway still price match based on competitor ads? I assume not because I never see that advertised in store anymore.

They do but sometimes when hyvee has a special fareway matches but they recently have begun to put a limit on how many you can buy at that price.

Our local Hy vee is dated, often crowed and feels grimy. I appreciate Fareway's simple shopping approach and clean facility. I couldn't honestly tell you which one is less expensive.

Also, I respect Fareway's decision to be closed on Sundays.

Fareway. In and out without all the extra "noise". Plus their meat market blows away our local Hy-Vees (we aren't big seafood people so don't care about that). Fareway will price match if you take the time to go that route.

They're all brutal. Horrible, self-congratulatory "hey look we paid Drew Barrymore" dogcrap that completely fails to capture the impact and point of the whole initiative.
Agree. Those are strange advertisements. Random photo shopped celebrities with a Hy Vee truck parked in the background. Nothing makes me want to shop at Hy Vee like a Drew Barrymore advertisement.

Either one is fine, but most my grocery dollars get spent at wheatsfield. We do small family farms for pork, beef, and eggs. For booze it’s cyclone liquor for the win!!

When the weekly ads come out, all I look for are the meat and alcohol sections. I usually prefer Fareway for meat due to price. Hy-Vee for liquor (yearly Urbandale Hy-Vee liquor sale.

I did score a 9 lb prime rib roast at Aldi for $6.99 lb. They had like 10 cases from IBP and they were gone in less than 10 minutes.

Und warum nichts Aldi's?? Wine and candy from Europe. Their dairy products never go bad. Their flowers stay fresh for weeks (nice to know when you're gifting). Their fresh meat is quite good. Shepherd's Pie in the freezer section. And Stollen. My God, the Stollen...

If you don't go to Aldi's, you just don't know what you're missing!

I got the most excellent 4-lb pork tenderloin for $4.99 a lb. at Aldi's. Best I've ever had (and that includes home-grown).

Fareway is great if you just want to grab a few simple things. Fareway has better prices overall but if you compare their standard food items, they are pretty close. People tend to spend more at Hy-Vee because they have more expensive options. I prefer the employees at Fareway and I'm a previous Hy-Vee employee.

Hy-Vee has a ton more selection of everything. They have a better bakery, they have better specialty meets, they have better cheese island, they have better produce, and the few that I go to have 10x the craft beer selection (Some fareways have gotten better). The types of meat I buy are the same at Costco, Fareway, Hy-Vee, etc.

Hy-Vee delivery is terrible. My wife has used it since the day it came out. Now she pays some yearly charge for it and it's still a joke. They always get things wrong, there are always missing items that she paid for, they send her texts to ask about substitutions even though she puts "no substitutions".

With all of that said, most areas of the country don't have two top notch grocery stores like Iowa. Publix in florida is ok overall and there is a good one in Texas (I think it's H.E.B). I've been to a lot of states and there are a lot of ****** grocery chains.

Fareway has the better meat counter, but HyVee has better overall selection. HyVee has also done a nice job with private label.

Fareway has done a great job on their label products as well. Decent products.
