Hunter Dekkers Concerns?

I watched Dekkers run the offense during the open practice scrimmage back in the spring and I'm not the least bit concerned. I was also impressed with Rocco. And with JJ Kohl coming in next year, they're gonna be so stacked at QB that I have a difficult time not expecting one of them to leave for more playing time. Matt is going to have his hands full trying to keep all three of them happy, but what a wonderful problem to have.

At least he won't be starting his first game in October, do really well with no prior film and Hakeem Butler, and having people wonder what happened to that version for 3 years after.

Aidan Boumann is not as athletic or talented as Dekkers. Dekkers has more raw physical talent than Purdy. Lots of potential.
Other than maybe Seneca... might Dekkers be the most - from a pure physical tool set - the most purely talented QB behind Seneca? Sage was great but I don't know if he was physically talented. Similar with Bret.

Last year Dekkers would have probably started if it hadn't been for a 4 year starter in Purdy.

He outshined Purdy all year.
In the Iowa game in the 4th quarter he was instant offense.

In spot duty against KSU and KU he looked like he belonged the last two seasons.

Matt has to walk a fine line he can't say he's a future heisman, he also can't say he's totally green. I think it is fair.

Cautious me:
Dekkers has a better arm, body and probably better overall physical gifts. But Purdy was a leader. Dekkers has only played spot minutes or mop up duty so far, so we really wont know what we have until we get into the first game.

Cocky me:

My concern is that he will be too good and will be forced to sit by the NCAA to make the games more fair.
That damn FOX and ESPN. always trying to make the BIG12 look bad so they can control the playoffs.:jimlad:

I imagine I'll catch flack for this post but wanted to ask anyways. I'm a bit nonplussed by CMC et al. comments on Dekkers. Anyone infer concern about Dekkers putting it all together? I haven't felt a lot of enthusiasm between Blum and Williams, or CMC, which I guess I wanted to see between the lines of coach speak. I feel like I'm used to hearing more buzz and excited optimism around a rising starting QB, especially with his potential. Obviously it's to be expected at this time of year- you have to see it on the field, so we are holding our collective breath. He has all the tools but how quickly can he reach his potential? yada yada.

Anyone else?

I wouldn't sweat it. Purdy apparently knew the offense inside and out, was a great game manager and saw things really well, bounced back from adversity, etc. Dekkers may never live up to that and we won't really know until he gets in games for real. Its likely though that Dekkers already has Purdy beat from an arm talent standpoint, which could more than make up for Purdy's lead in "head" talent.

I would imagine at a position like QB, people in the program want to temper expectations for Dekkers He plays the one position where he has a chance to look really good and really bad on every single play. People were pretty tough on our last QB that won a pile of games for us. I'm sure they don't want to give fans a reason to get overly critical on Dekkers if he doesn't throw for 400 yards and 4 TD's in his first start.

There are also things we just won't know until Dekkers gets the game time. What if he throws a couple of INTs in the first half, does he learn and make adjustments or does he put his head down and suck. Will Dekkers make the right reads when the defense is in his face. Will he get his teammates lined up right. That kind of stuff.

I'm a little concerned by his weight loss (206), but not at all about his talent. He's gonna be great!
