Blum recently posted on this board a quote from a coaching staff member something to the effect of “if he has the kind of season we think he will, the big boys will come calling after the season”. Too lazy to find the thread
Dekkers is going to be a stud. End of story. Perhaps we overlooked him because he’s gotten so much pub in the off-season and well-deserved at that. As someone put it to me last week, “If he has the year we think he will, the big dogs will be calling trying to poach him.”
Cautious me:
Dekkers has a better arm, body and probably better overall physical gifts. But Purdy was a leader. Dekkers has only played spot minutes or mop up duty so far, so we really wont know what we have until we get into the first game.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Accuracy???? If you saw him play in HS, then you won't be worried. He threw a lot of passes on screens, crossing patterns, sideline throws, deep balls...... He didndt get all those passing yards in HS because he missed his receivers!!!!!! He was probably a better baseball pitcher than a QB, he threw strikes!!!!!! He will be more accurate than Purdy!!!! I am not worried one bit. I just hope the OL can protect him because he wont run out of the pocket after a half second like our last QB. He is patient and confident!
My biggest "cocky" thought is this:
usually new QBs, the biggest problem is mistakes and turnovers. But we already had a good amount of that with Purdy, so I don't think it would get worse.
So HD (and that's what we're going to be calling him) could be less good in some ways (e.g. accuracy, completion %), but if he turns it over less, then the team might perform better in terms of W/L.
You can go to the 6:30 mark in this video if you dare:I just have to laugh at the “Purdy was such a heady player” and “Purdy was a great game manager” takes. He regressed in those regards. Thinking about an instance where he picked up an errant snap, threw the ball, got tipped up, Purdy caught it again, then fumbled or threw a pick. Maybe someone can refresh my memory from what game that was.
During that sequence it felt like I yelled “just fall on it” or “just go down” probably 20 times.

It's fine. And frankly, I'm guessing Purdy don't GAF. Part of what made him awesome was that he could totally F up and just come back and make plays.becarful
i got murdered on here for posting a "highlight" video of purdys top turnovers.
i more did it for comical relief because those things are so flabbergasting they're hilarious.
I felt like that led to a lot of his incompletions last year when he was in. You could tell the talent was there, but guys who were used to the way Purdy throws had to adjust mid game to catching a different kind of throw. That, and he throws with the wrong hand…

They're intentionally not trying to hype him up. Everyone is excited about his potential.I imagine I'll catch flack for this post but wanted to ask anyways. I'm a bit nonplussed by CMC et al. comments on Dekkers. Anyone infer concern about Dekkers putting it all together? I haven't felt a lot of enthusiasm between Blum and Williams, or CMC, which I guess I wanted to see between the lines of coach speak. I feel like I'm used to hearing more buzz and excited optimism around a rising starting QB, especially with his potential. Obviously it's to be expected at this time of year- you have to see it on the field, so we are holding our collective breath. He has all the tools but how quickly can he reach his potential? yada yada.
Anyone else?
I really don't want to hear any hype until this team has something to say. Thought there was way too much of it going into last season. I'm not worried about Dekkers as I've seen him already. Great arm but I think his running was most impressive. Only thing I saw was a kid who needed reps to get his timing down.
