Truly sad. A few highlights off the top of my head.

He played for Coach Bryant @ Kentucky, and he was Joe Namath's QB Coach @ Alabama.

He started the Hurricane Dynasty and won their first National Championship in 1983.

He built Louisville from a school playing in a AAA Baseball park to respectable program in their own on-campus stadium - which led to the Cardinals joining the ACC.

He built the Florida Atlantic program from scratch.

He was 6-0 in Bowl Games:

He won a Peach Bowl and an Orange Bowl @ Miami (Fla.)
He won a Fiesta Bowl and a Liberty Bowl @ Louisville
He won a New Orleans Bowl and a Detroit Bowl @ FAU

He was a GREAT Football Coach!

R.I.P. Coach Schnellenberger.

In 2011, he said that leaving Miami was the dumbest move he'd ever made. Left for a $3M contract with the new Miami USFL franchise. They never played a game. He would have won several national championships there. With all the talent in South Florida, I can't believe no one has gotten them back to the top.

Yeah, I remember on the 30 for 30 they talked about how Schnellenberger drew a triangle from Tampa to Miami to Orlando with the plan to simply lock that down for any and all of their recruiting. And he did it.

“I don’t regret the decision I made,” he said. “I have the full realization it was kind of dumb, but I’ve made a lot of dumb decisions in my personal life.”

Maybe one of the best college coaches ever. A pretty good human being, too.
