Had a Bucky/Big Ten fan tell me he must not have been smart enough to play at UW going off of name only (he would have met UW's standards to my knowledge).

Gotta love that good old fashioned racism.

Yep, old school racism that isn't based on facts. Actually, here you go:

https://playeroftheyear.gatorade.com/poy/assets/writable/48586/2018_BBB_THaliburton.pdf

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Haliburton as Wisconsin’s best high school boys basketball player.

...

A member of his school’s Student Council and Link Crew, Haliburton has volunteered locally on behalf of a peer mentoring program, an elementary school literacy outreach initiative and youth basketball programs.

..

Haliburton has maintained a 3.68 GPA in the classroom.

Now UW-Madison does have good standards for academics and is a good school, but at the same time this would be good enough as a basketball player especially to get a scholarship, sorry.

Oh, and Ethan Happ (Wisconsin's leading scorer) had a 3.75 GPA which was barely above Tyrese's. Also, Happ was out of state from Illinois which means your GPA usually has to be higher than someone coming from in state at most state universities.

https://www.buckys5thquarter.com/wi...nsin-recruiting-ethan-happ-signs-with-badgers

True to form, Ryan was quick to point out Happ's academic success in the university's release, noting Happ sports a 3.75 GPA.

Nothing like casual racism! WIsconsin just messed up. Perhaps they didn't have a slot for him, but that's hard to believe if it's a good talent. This is true of everything - at my work we've turned down plenty of people because we didn't have slots for them by the time we need to make a decision for one reason or another, but we've definitely had times where we didn't have a true slot for the person but they were so good that we hired them anyway because it would be a crime to let them go elsewhere.

Yeah, I think Halli is pretty darns smart, skilled, and determined. Guy has been a pleasant surprise, although I really like what I saw from him in the WI state championship.

Let Halliburton out of Wisconsin? kid is just a sic player
ISU, Cinci & Minny were his only major offers - most of the others came from Valley schools. Lots of P5 programs overlooked him - but I am glad Wisc did!! Hali has been the biggest surprise ISU player I have witnessed in all my years of watching Cyclone basketball.

Nebraska wanted him too. Tyler Harris is a good player but Prohm obviously made the right decision like usual

I actually thought about this during the second half. I was imagining Tyler Harris trying to defend KU today, or hoisting up volume shots - so glad we passed on him.

Testifying
If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that Prohm can scout point guards. Particularly ones that are under appreciated in recruiting circles.
Prohm’s PG street cred is very, very high. It’s only going to climb.

Curious how all of this went down. Thought for sure Harris was the take, but didn't commit on his OV. Glad we have TH.

His basketball IQ is incredible. I don't know if it was mentioned, but on the 6 player tech he stood right by the ref and waited until the ball was in play before he said something.

Don't know if Greg Gard had interest early and Tyrese wanted to go elsewhere? Or Gard simply didn't know what a star he had in-state.
It's either a swing and a miss or a big passed ball.

Hornacek would be the other, nobody wanted that guy out of high school.
