Hoiberg Watch 2015: Friday, May 29 Thread

I definitely think Fred is gone but I still can't figure out the allure of stepping in behind a guy that won 65% of his games and into an aging roster. Admittedly I'm no NBA guy but between his familiarity with the organization and the city and an up and coming roster the Wolves seem like a better fit for Fred. Is there any chance Fred is using the Bulls to leverage a Wolves offer when it sounds like Flip is going into a lame duck year?

If he is going to go somewhere, I'd rather see him go to Minnesota, as Chicago is obviously ran by a bunch of ****** bags.
 
Otz would be the perfect successor if he can get another 3-5 years under a successful head coach. Like Hornacek.

He might work out now, but it makes me pretty nervous. Especially because if you have to fire him, considering his recruiting work.

A) Its the Jimmy's and Joe's not the X's and O's

B) TJ recruited a certain style of athlete to Ames, which did not work under Greg McD but did work under Hoiberg's era almost immediately.

C) TJ supported and promoted the transfer destination which also helped with the style of athlete they are looking for and currently using.

THE KEY will be surrounding himself with good people!
 
I don't see Otz as our next head coach. President Leath and some big time donors do not want that to happen. That's the fact Jack!!

I think Hornacek would be a great hired, but I don't think its a no brainer. Just the fact that you'd pay $100 more for your corner tickets if they hire Hornacek tells me that he's the kind of guy Jamie might hire for financial reasons rather than being the best candidate.

He certainly could be the best candidate, but he would also beat the most likely option to appease the fans.

Recruiting is a lot of it. You have to recruit. Fred always had good assistants and recruiters. Lutz, Sadler, TJ, Henry.

Pretty much a foregone conclusion that Fred is gone. I wish him luck. At the same time, look at what Chicago is doing to Thibs.
 
This sucks. If I was him there is no way I would leave. The chance to build a school into a national power is much more appealing to me especially if it is the school you played at. But he obviously has different goals. Also don't get why the Bulls with their horrible management.
I think it's funny that the rift between Thibs and management started because he wanted to draft Draymond Green and they wanted Marquis Teague. Yikes.
I will wish Hoiberg the best but will always wonder what could have been if he stayed. Now let's hope ISU makes a great hire!

What? The only way we're hiring him is if we open up the checkbook. And he is definitely the best candidate. Idk who else would be better (other than Fred staying for eternity of course)
 
They need Otz to stay as I am sure he will even if he's not the head coach and they need to move fast.
 
Talent is the number one thing needed to be successful at any level, but coaching must be in place to take that talent to the highest level. Look at Travis Ford, the guy brings in very good talent to OSU year in and year out but underperformed year in and year out.

If you have a great coach with lesser talent, you can still have success (like CFH has done), but to be elite, you really need that talent first. Both is needed to reach greatness.

Well Leath and his cronies are ****** bags to begin with, I don't give 1 **** what he thinks. He doesn't care about isu, he's just looking to move onto bigger n better.

Well, Leath making good decisions for ISU can pave his path to better things. They aren't mutually exclusive things.

Would be a great hire but it's doubtful that he's interested.

I imagine that Leath will similarly stay out of the way and let Pollard do his job. That is Leath's self-described management style.
