The speed of the hire (if true) might prove that he was nudged out, and that Herman is going to be QB coach.

I simply don't buy the "nudge out" theory.

A) You don't get "nudged out" to Ohio State, even for a demotion.
B) The very young offense played well, and the Herman offense was very difficult to defend when executed well.
C) The team is going to a bowl game.
D) Continuity is important to all coaches: they don't tend to shake up their staff following a successful season, no matter what faults it would have had.
E) Herman is very highly thought of for being a part of a 17-win team that mustered 9 in the previous time block.
F) The Big 12 is arguably the best conference this year. Showing an improvement in scoring against that is pretty much all Herman had to do to demonstrate his worth. He did.

Obviously, I could be totally wrong. But if the OC job is a dangling possibility for Herman (as reported) then, not only were my huge doubts that it was ONLY a demotion to QB coach confirmed, but I don't see how Paul Rhoads could have possibly "tricked" Urban into picking up his unwanted coach.

Fired after 6 games = Not given the chance to succeed.

His program for OC's is taught throughout Texas by him (now that he's at a lower school). That sounds like contacts with Texas coaches to me.

This. He knows Texas as well as anybody

If PR already knows who the new OC is then he pushed TH out. No way TH leaves yesterday out of the blue and we already know the new OC. This had to be in the works for awhile.

Re: ***Offensive Coordinator Search Thread***

If ISU hires Mangino, what are the chances that ISU gets sponsors from King Buffet and Mongolian Buffet to go along with our Applebee's sponsor?
The JTS consessionaire people could sell a 5 pound Mangino Monster Burger for $50. They could add a Godzilla Pizza.

I don't get why Herman's contract wasn't renewed after the improvement the offense showed the last six games. I would understand it more if we knew we were getting a huge improvement at OC but it looks like more of the same and a guy who hasn't succeeded at the BCS level. I'm sure Franklin will do fine but we already knew Herman was improving and he was more of a known commodity. Herman was also an alright recruiter for us and it doesn't look like Franklin has much of a recruiting base.

He was successful at Kentucky (BCS level) when named OC in 2000. In fact I believe the Offense at Kentucky under his reign was 11th best in the nation.

I just get the impression that Herman and PR were not the best of friends and maybe both decided it was time to part ways. Working relationship and that was about it. Could be wrong, but just seems like they were not always on the same page.

Puke, you think Mizzou's Oc is going to Ohio State for the QB job? Frick no, its a step down.

Obviously it is a step down. I didn't say it wasn't (in fact, I called it a demotion.) But if you get "nudged out" you get nudged out to be the OC at Idaho State, or a QB coach in the MAC. You don't get a position of any sort at Ohio State with the most famous coach, especially one that is reportedly dangling the OC position in front of him.

HIS CONTRACT WAS NOT RENEWED

I don't really care why TH left, if he wanted to leave or if he was asked to find a new job, but I really don't like being yelled at when I read about it.

I've also come to realize that your posts tend to be slanted. Therefore, the true story is probably that CPR told TH he was undecided on whether or not to renew his contract, and that they would discuss it after the bowl game, but that he should explore other options if they arose. One did, so TH took it, and it works out for everyone.

Can you explain your comments here? I agree with continuity but Franklin runs a very similar system, in fact a system that our current starting QB ran in high school. Franklin has been successful everywhere he's been except Auburn where it wasn't fair to him. Herman, has struggled every year at ISU except for about the last 6 games of this season where things finally started clicking.
When Money decided how to block on the outside, our whole offense improved. My only question was why did it take so long?

His new blocking shoes were on back order.

I know this isn't all of Herman's fault-(Implementing new system, young players, etc.)-but here are the points we've score IN REGULATION this year.

(per Wikipedia)
Franklin has made over $170K annually by running seminars around the country (351 hich schools in 44 states) teaching his offense. Jared Barnette ran the same system in high school and I bet a lot of other Texas high schools have taken part in these seminars. That could lead to some good connections. HS coaches would not keep bringing him in for seminars if they didn't respect him.

Part of the reason that JB has had success executing our spread offense this year is because he has run a similar spread since he was a freshman in HS. Just imagine Franklin recruiting offensive talent from Texas that run the exact same system and are that much farther ahead in the learning curve.

Tony Franklin could be a steal. I personally wont hold his time at Auburn against him. That whole season was a complete debacle that got everyone fired. Franklin had no time to really implement the spread and recruit players to run it. We are running a similar spread at ISU and have spent the last three years recruiting for it. I have a feeling that the transition will be a lot more seemless than his transition at AU.
