Greenberg Tweet on McKay

tbf...he could still be growing/have grown since he was measured for Recruiting websites.

Cool story bro but I still grew about 4" from 19-22 during college. And I'm very thankful for it because it only got me to very average 5'10".

Crap, this isn't good. Has anyone broken the bad news to Fred yet?

That's what I was thinking, do these NBA teams that want Fred know he adds players to the rotation in the middle of the season that make his team worse? I remember that time in the middle of the Bulls 72-10 season where Phil brought in some crap players in the middle of the season.

It won't take that long. 3-4 games. Same as it took Nader. JM didn't just forget how to play bball. He's the only two time juco AA in what 10 years. Dude has skills.

He practiced against the Big 12's leading rebounders and defended Georges in practice all last season. I know it's just a tweet, but it is pretty silly.

the thing people don't understand is we don't need McKay to be an offensive force. He's gonna get his from second chance points, lobs, and pick and rolls.

Georges and Bryce are two guys that can create. The other guys don't need to. They can just stay within the system, pass the rock around and find the guy with the best shot.

I think Greenberg made a mistake only in that he assumed that a team has five players. Under that premise, substituting a defensive player into a successful offensive-minded five player team would indeed lower offensive production.

Hoiball is different. It is built on the premise that you take advantage of any mismatches especially and primarily by creating and forcing those mismatches. In Hoiball, adding a rim-protector or defensive specialist doesn't merely substitute one skill for another, instead it creates a whole new series of possible combinations that are available to force mismatches. In essence, in Hoiball, all players are role players not just the players who don't start the game and it is also true that adding a player doesn't merely increase the number of available combinations arithmetically but (almost) geometrically.

There is risk associated with having too many possible combinations or options to select from to find the perfect one but Fred's record indicates that he is one of the better (IMHO the best) coaches at selecting the right combination for the particular situation at hand.

The more I read his tweet the more I can't get past "role player" and "instant impact". If he is saying that McKay will be rusty - hence the "instant" in "instant impact" he is probably right. If his premise is you can't have an impact by being a role player and impacting the game simply in your role I would disagree greatly with that. There are a lot of role players who can impact a game - does the zone buster who comes off the bench to simply offer a team a three point threat when a team is packing it inside not offer an impact? I would say yes. Any coach who doesn't have a three point threat, even if it is only coming off the bench will tell you that is an impact that is sorely missed.

Fred already knows how to use Jameel within his offense, Seth just hasn't had the opportunity to see it. He will.

That's hilarious. ISU fans light up Greenberg for not bowing down to Hoiball and he calls them out.

Not many teams have two 17 ppg players that look poised to stay at that or increase it...I don't know if any have two of them that can do that while filling up the rest of the stat sheet like Niang and BDJ have so far.

McKay can run like a mad man for his size. That much we know for sure.

Seth Greenbergs career as a head coach: 22 seasons, 378-283, 8 NIT appearances, 3 NCAA appearances, advanced to second round once. How does this guy have any credibility at all? He sucked as a coach and is even worse as an analyst.

To be fair, hurting spacing and hurting the team are different things. He could negatively affect one thing and still be a net positive. I mean, edozie hurts out teams 3 point shooting, and net ball handling abilities when he is on the floor, but it is overall good he is out there for his strengths.
