Greenberg Tweet on McKay

A role we could really use help in, McKay isn't the Bill Russell/Mutumbo/Olajuwon hybrid some around here believe. The fact is, he's very raw offensively,his offensive game is a lot like Aaron White, he is at his best running the floor and attacking the basket. The thing is, in case you haven't noticed, ISU has enough guys who can score. McKay isn't here to score points.

what shame is being the 4th option on this team?
 
"Jameel is one of those kids that will impact the game just with his energy. We won't have to worry about pace with Jameel. He is gonna run and he's gonna do it every time. He is gonna be back there to protect the rim when we get beat. We won't have to double the post as much with Jameel out there. - Fred Hoiberg-(Postgame yesterday)

If he just beats the opposing big man down the floor it will impact the "spacing" for our offense.

I think he's a really tall guy (don't care about measurements I see him towering over everyone except Tsalmpouris), with crazy long arms, who runs the floor with great agility, and can get above the rim effortlessly. Which is pretty much exactly what we need. I don't expect him to have Niang's moves or Ejim's rebounding instincts or also be as thick as Royce...I just highly doubt that adding a piece we've always been missing is anything but a blessing. We certainly could have used exactly that vs Maryland when we were playing like crap on both sides of the ball.

It's not like we're adding a point guard when we already have Monte or a shooting guard when we already have several very good shooting guards. We're adding a type of player we don't currently have. Not sure where ackowledging that obvious fact, a fact which only an idiot thinks isn't key, means ISU fans think he is the next Hakeem.
 
I think Fred is way too smart to let McKay have a negative affect on our spacing. I think it is a non issue if there is enough shooters on the floor with him. I think he fits into the system very similar to how Hogue plays in our system.
 
What I find amusing abouth Seth tweet is how clueless he really is. I actually think the opposite will happen with McKay. I think his presence will only improve spacing. He's our first true post who can score inside, and if that happens teams will look to collapse at times on him. People are really underestimating JM offensive skills around the rim. It will take a few games as we know but I think it will surprise some at his ability around the rim.

Playing with Georges and Monte is going to reeeeally help McKay offensively. I've seen enough to know he can catch the ball very well. I doubt he had passers of that level feeding him the ball at IHCC.
 
Nobody needs to get worked up about this. We don't even have a player named McKay on the team. However, I am excited for the McKat dude to join the team.

McKay will play the 5 but his natural position is the 3, we wont' see him post up or slow anything, he'll be arguably the best athlete on the court, who came from a juco program that averages about 100ppg. How can that hurt spacing? At the very least he'll stretch the court about a foot vertically.

I still don't think Nadar is as good as he is going to be. It will also a team thing. It will take a little while for the other guys to get used to the new lineups as well. I'm more thinking the whole team won't be clicking as well as they can. This is not to say that he is not going to make an impact earlier than that. I'm talking the whole team going from a sweet 16 team to a final 4 team

Agree with most but he's not a true post, not a knock on him, in fact its the opposite. The guy played point on the full court press and gets most of his points attacking, he's can get to the hoop but he's not going to hurt teams working out of the post.

We need him to play defense like a true post, especially half court defense. We have a true post offensive player already...he just needs to wait for that player to create easy slam dunks for him on offense.

I hope he knows to be careful putting the ball on the floor in the post. I love the Dozer, but keep the ball in your hands!
