Just people responding and giving opinions to the original post, which included, "What do you think of tattoos?" or similar.
I've hired for 8 years in an office setting and my companies have had actual policies about tattoos. But, for me it depends on the location and what it is. Neck tattoos, hand tattoos, sleeves, stuff like that would be no nos. if they have a small tat of their kids name on their wrist, I'd probably not be too concerned about it.
To be fair, there's a lot of people with tattoos that are more equivalent to a '97 Monte Carlo.

Funny thing... I'm against tattoos FOR ME because if there is something I really want to say badly enough I'll get a t-shirt or a bumper sticker. BUT - my wife and her girlfriends (youngest 45 up to 60) all went out and got that exact tattoo - Be Strong - on various parts of their bodies.
Personally I find the traditional tattoos - animals, dragons, chinese characters, barb wire, etc... off-putting but even though I mocked my wife's choice, it is simple, clean and invisible to everyone but me.
I'm an older guy so there is a generation gap, but IMHO "kids" with these visible and extravagent tattoos could be limiting themselves in the professional workforce. Military for instance has a fairly extensive ban on ink that cuts way into the recuritable numbers.
My joke is "kids" want to express their individuality by doing the same thing as so many others... Always been that way, will always be that way.

Just last week, I was interviewing an applicant that had a neck tattoo. The applicant had a very well put together resume and honestly had a pretty good interview. The position was for a new accounts rep in a bank in a rural Iowa farm community. We concluded the interview. I hired a different individual. I can not have a younger generation employee with a neck tattoo dealing with an older generation who will immediately form an opinion of that person and ultimately make a business decision against my institution. Can't say I agree with it, but it's the truth.
This is about the only tattoo I would get, since I can never wear a wedding ring at work.
To answer the OP, I generally disliked tattoos, found them unattractive and think most of them are stupid. For starters, they're basically permanent, so anything you like today may not be likable to you in the future. Also, I've seem them fade away over the years on people or as people age or change body size, distort their tats as well.
They also can limit your potential in business and dating. Many businesses don't like visible tattoos, so you'll have to cover them up or may lose your job. In dating, there will be a sizable minority who won't date people with tats. I find them unattractive and also believe in the previous "bumper sticker on a car" analogy.
So basically I don't understand why people would permanently destroy their body on a current interest or fad and limit their dating and business opportunities. However, I'm happily married and don't care in my company, so it doesn't affect me.

My oldest daughter has several tats on her legs. One is a cobra (for me). Other leg is a mermaid (for her mom, who was a swimmer in college). One is a crown with deer antlers (for her sisterwho acts like she's a queen, but loves to deer hunt). She hasn't gotten one yet for her other sis, but I'm sure it's coming.
Dont have any, probably will never get one. I could care less if people get them, but I cringe when they get one/some that cant be covered with clothing. I guess I just want to look professional.
I got mine when I was younger. I only regret one of them. And I agree, neck tats are terrible.
I have a friend who owns shops Ames and Des Moines. He's done all my work. He's an ISU grad in fine arts and does great work. Everybody has their own reasons for getting ink.
