so i got this gas fireplace and the pilot blows out a lot in the winter from drafts
the main draft is where the gas line comes in the lower side i think
cold air can flow from underneath pretty good on the real cold nights
anyway, ive called insulation people and they dont want to touch it, ive read to not even bother insulating because of all the temperature changes and potential for moisture, ive talked to handy men that will do everything you can think of, but they dont want to touch this, hvac guy said to build a false ceiling, insulate the studs and cover with fire retardant plastic, but he wouldnt touch it.
one of the first house projects im utterly confused on, any advise or thoughtz?
the chase is about 3ft by 6ft and water heater vent also goes through it
