The thing with putting the soccer field inside of a track is if you have ever played on one of those (see Hoover high school in Des Moines) the soccer fields and players will always get the short end of the stick. If you wanted the infield to drain at all the field would have to slope significantly and area's such as the corners (for corner kicks) end up a lot lower than the goal area as well as being sometimes less than 3 feet from the track which can be very frustrating and unsafe in some instances. The soccer complex we have for women's soccer is quite nice and if we were to ever look at adding a mens team as well some where down the line, ruining that by putting in a track would be counter productive. I know women's soccer or soccer in general is not a huge money maker but Division 1 is a growing sport and competing in that would mean maintaining facilities.

Well, first of all, :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh: (to the bold)

Second, drainage shouldn't be a problem for a division I facility. Did you know that the field at JT is about the same elevation as the creek at normal stage? Still, the field has never flooded, not even in '93. There are drainage tricks that a university can afford that a HS can't.

The U. of Texas soccer field is inside the track. It's a 20,000 seat stadium accross the street from the football field .
