And that would have been illegal. It's not a difficult exercise to do because all cell phones in the US operate in a small band of spectrum.
This thread will quickly make it's way to the cave with christian/muslim chatterings.

Are their exceptions to this rule? I'm pretty sure my daughter's school jams cell phones. It is right across the street from my house and once you go in the building there is no reception whatsoever.

I'd have to guess if that's true then it wouldn't be legal, and if it is, then it's stupid and shouldn't be legal.
Never fails in events like this that in the mass media's rush to get info out there that so much inaccurate info gets thrown out. Had our office TV on today and lost count of how many times I heard "Not to speculate but...<insert speculation here>" Early reports were that 12 were dead and over 300 injured and thank God the casualty count isn't that high. Then about the 5 other devices found now turn out not to be explosive devices. Don't get me wrong, this is all better than what was originally reported, but it doesn't help the stereotype of the media oversensationalizing events like this.
I just talked to my brother in law, whose son lives in Cambridge, and they were on a train 1.5 miles from the explosion, and he called Derek 15 minutes after the explosion. Derek said he was surprised his dad got through because no one's cellphone was working because the system was overloaded. I think this is what happened, but it is hard to tell for sure.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."
But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.
But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.
But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.
So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Its easy to write off a group like the Westboro Baptists and not being real Christians and try to feel good about that not being radical Christians. The same case can be made for the terrorists on 9/11. They said they what the did was because of Islam, but the truth is they distorted Islam to serve their own purposes and they were not what a majority of Muslims believe to be is a real Muslim.
