Did Jack Trice have children before he died?

I was walking through the O'Hare Airport sporting my ISU clothing earlier and a random gentleman saw me and approached me and asked if he could ask me a question. He pulled up a picture of Jack Trice and said, "do you know his story?" I said of course I did, that all Iowa State fans know the story of Jack Trice. He then said, "I'm his grandson".

I wasn't sure whether to believe him or not, but then pulled out his driver's license and showed me his last name was Trice. Then showed me a picture of his college football photo at Wyoming from the 70s and guy looked like a spitting image of Jack Trice, but with longer hair. Told the guy it was such an incredible honor to meet him and then he just continued walking off to some other part of the airport.

Sounds most likely it’s someone who is apart if the family, but not a direct descendent of Jack.

Jack Trice and his teen bride, Cora Mae Starlard Trice, had no children together. Cora Mae remarried a few years later and she and new husband Homer Greene raised three children, two daughters and a son. Cora Mae followed Trice to ISU and she started college in Ames. Because she never finished college, she made sure her three children were well educated (a physical therapist, nurse and librarian). And against her wishes, her son played football at some level. —Steve Jones

Maybe yes, maybe not. No one can say for sure. But there are definitely rumors that he adopted one of his children. There is no confirmed information, but this is quite possible, isn't it? I also adopted a wonderful boy with cerebral palsy with the help of fosterplus.org . It's a wonderful feeling when you lend a helping hand and take on a lot of responsibility. Do you think you are capable of such a thing? And if some have already done it, what are the tips on this?

(This could be a Friday off-topic, @Angie but ... )

Is it possible the man himself genuinely thought he was Trice's grandson (or, more likely, great-grandson)? There are times when families pass-down verbal stories from generation to generation that are off, wrong, etc. Sometimes on purpose, sometimes just a mix-up.

Maybe he is a great-nephew or something and his grandpa died at a young age, some distant relative mixed up the story, etc.
