I am looking for a dentist in either Downtown Des Moines area or Ankeny.

I was wondering if anyone here could recommend a good dentist?

Quite honestly, I haven't been in probably 8 or 9 years and I'm now a bit worried about my teeth. Ideally I want a dentist that's going to be cool about it and not make me feel like more crap.

Thanks!

I hear ya, probably been at least 5 years or more for me too and I would bet I have a few cavities that I don't know of so I'm going to be in the same boat too. I hate getting lectures on it and my dentist growing up would be the kind that would make you feel like crap after each check up.

I would recommend Greg Brandt in Ankeny. You may want to inquire into your dental insurance policy to see if there are any participating providers in your area.

My insurance provider lists a TON of places. I don't know where to start. I figured if I had a list of names, I'd run into some on the list.

Thanks for the suggestion!

If you don't mind driving to Ames, Dr. Rockow-Nelson is the best. Not the cheapest, but the best.

I've gone to John Kearns on Fleur (Fleur Plaza Dentistry) since I moved here in '94. Right by Fleur cinema. So good proximity to downtown IMO.

Nice guy. Nice staff. Routine stuff - they get you in and out pretty quickly. Don't seem to do alot of stuff (xrays, etc) simply for the sake of doing it, and work inside your insurance well.

He's partners with another dentist, so when he's gone, she covers. Name escapes me, but I the few times I've had to visit her, I have no complaints.

Just went two weeks ago. Was asked about flosssing. Told them I don't and didn't get much of a guilt trip at all. Just some sample stuff to try instead of regular floss. He doesn't really come off as the type to preach.

(yes - he's a hawk. But doesn't wear it on his sleeve. Alot of his techs are ISU)

Jordan Creek Center for Asthetic Dentistry. You will appreciate the hotness of all the girls that work there, trust me.

If you work downtown, do yourself a BIG favor and find a dentist downtown. It is no fun going to the dentist, so why not at least make it convenient and not a burden on your time (work time or free time).

I go to Hub Dental (Dr Grask) downtown in the Hub Tower and it works out great. My insurance requires check-ups every 6 month so I'm able to just walk down the skywalk on my lunch hour and take care of it. It is 45 minutes of my life and can't get back but at least it doesn't require driving or burning a couple hours of my life. If I need addl work, again, very easy to handle.
There's also a dentist on the skywalk level of the Equitable building that I've heard good things about from co-workers who go there. I know there are others downtown too if you do some checking .

That guy is a huge Hawkeye fan! He made his Cyclone wife get a Hawkeye tattoo! Don't support that!

But she has commented to me on how hot their staff is...

I don't think I'm going to support that. Plus I think my teeth aren't really in the greatest shape right now - not really going to impress the ladies with that...

Again...they guy lives in Ankeny and works downtown. Why burn more of your life than you have to traveling to and from a dentist's office?

Wow - twice a year to get to a good dentist.

The tragedy of the lost 15 minutes.

15 minutes is so worth it to find a good dentist. Going to the dentist can be a horrible experience if you get the wrong guy. I'm in Ames so I'm no help, but Dr. Mary Consamus has been my dentist for my whole life, she's great. She'll come in on days off if you have emergencies and is just all around very friendly and gentle.
