“Now that I’m at defensive tackle, I’ve gotten more sacks than I did at defensive end,” Irving said. “I’m liking that.”

The Giants used to run or still do their "NASCAR" package where they essentially lined up 4 DE's across the line and let them go crazy. The guy is huge and could be a problem for interior linemen. I interpret this as a case where they are trying to get all of the best d-linemen on the field at the same time. I could be wrong but I like the idea of the athleticism the DT's will have. Also, I think this speaks to Willie Scott not missing much, if any, time.
That just might be the only thing I've read thus far that makes any sense.
I cannot see how this is a positive at all otherwise.
So much for all those people on here saying how awesome he was and how dominant a player he was going to be... based off of nothing except his size. He was talked up on here like he was going to be the next Lawrence Taylor or something.
Others, including the coaching staff, basically said he was a project that was very raw and was going to need a lot of work. Well, I think the coaching staff was right.
I just think that his feet were too slow for him to get much pressure on the QB from the DE position. He never really did much last year outside of the INT for the TD. Hopefully he can get on the field at the DT spot, but I can't say that I've ever seen many 6'7" DT's before. None that were any good at least. It will be hard for him to get low enough pad level I'm guessing, but we shall see?
I hope we didn't have any injuries at DT to force this move? I was hoping that he would have made some strides at DE this year, but maybe not.

Guys - I interviewed Rhoads, Irving and Shane B. Just got them transcribed. Starting to write about this right now. Sit tight.

Maybe I am the only one, but I love the move. He may struggle some in run defense but he is quicker than most DT so that could be a plus for him and allow him to be disruptive and I like the idea of someone his size getting in passing lanes. He could be disruptive doing that alone and this gives us a more athletic team on the field when he is at DT. At DE he too often got pushed upfield behind the QB and was not able to get in passing lanes.
Shut up and burn your tickets.I will sit however I want to sit.
One of the only negative parts of the Rhoads era has been the continued lack of development of the defensive line. Every other unit apart from WR has been at least serviceable during his tenure.
I agree with you, but he's gotta gain a pound a day from now to the opener to even stand a chance against Big 12 O-LinesMaybe I am the only one, but I love the move. They must like what they have in Lemke, Meyers, and Kron. Maybe they had six DEs ready, and only four DTs, and wanted five of each. I don't know. He will have quite a bit of practice time before our first FBS game, so I suppose it's not too late to move.
Interested to read the story. I like what Irving brings to the field. His biggest weakness (IMO) is he seems slower than others to react and get off the ball. Hope that's gotten better for him.
HAHA Jake McDonough didn't develop.
