Sorry but if Iowa is 11th with their schedule, I can’t take these rankings seriously.

Other than close win last night they've blown everybody out, I'm sure it weighs the high end margin of victory a little more than makes sense if they are getting that rating based solely on this year's schedule...but there are only a handful of unbeatens already too.

On the flip side we had a couple results against low ranked teams that probably wouldn't be as close if we played again.

Honestly I'd rank both ISU and Iowa around 15-20 right now but feel like it's too early to really tell, they could both end up nowhere near the top 25 in a few weeks. Some teams are going to find a way to shut down Murray and with ISU it's still such a new group that you just don't know about some of the pieces for sure. They got good Bohannon @UVA and some nights we know he takes a lot of shots and doesn't hit.

For now Iowa is an undefeated team with a phenomenal looking star player. ISU is an undefeated team that looks to have a defense that can frustrate nearly anybody. More confident in our ability to attack the rim than our outside shooting where it's still too early to tell.

We’ll see how well they handle Purdue and Illinois. Those games will be very telling.
But I love that we’ll be going into that game (hopefully) undefeated in front of a crazy Hilton crowd.

When it comes to metrics it does make sense. They've absolutely obliterated the crap teams they play and they won a road game against #65. Iowa is definitely a good, not great team this year and some of you are going to have to deal with it.

That said we're about 20% of the way through the season and about 2% of the meaningful games have been played. If they go 0-3 the next 3, which is highly possible, then we're talking about a different thing here.

Saw a guy that does brackets give us a 3 seed...he's literally going on results thus far this year not projecting what could happen. It's a pipe dream but I'll take it. Got me to click on his website so good for him!

If you force Bart Torvik to simulate the rest of the season with ISU ranked #25 then...

1638464659393.png

22-9 (9-9)

#5 seed in the NCAA tournament

against #12 seeds of Cincinnati, Ohio, South Dakota State, and UAB

Remember, this is using the real data from the actual seven games played this season. This throws out the last three games of last season, which were absolutely terrible showings.

If ISU makes the NCAAs, just hand Otz the National Coach of the Year award.

So far this is my dream season.

Creighton and Iowa are going to be challenges. Both are good teams and emotions will run high. The games against Xavier and Memphis were comparatively antiseptic -- the barking between Conditt and Nunge was just a small taste of the bad blood that is going to be on display in Hilton.

But what happened in Brooklyn wasn't an accident. This is a very good basketball team right now.

Iowa has been the tougher team out of the gates for a long time. They've had so much more fight in this one. I think that will be different this year.

You mean you don't want to crush them by 30 in a 5/12 game to finally move on from that?
Yes. Still, it's too soon. I can still picture the look of befuddlement on Hoiberg's face during that game. That may have been the only time he had that look except when he was dealing with Jimmy Butler.
