I see that flights from DSM are over $1000. Because I live in St. Louis, I'll be flying from STL to San Antonio (SAT) on Friday. I just checked to see what tickets are still available. On 3/20 to SAT, you can fly on SW for about $610 and other airlines for around $612 (source Expedia). On 3/21 to SAT, the prices are $611 and $457 respectively. Or fly into Dallas for about $515 on SW or $541 on other airlines. Also, yesterday I bid for a 3-day rental car (economy) on Priceline.com for pick-up in SAT and got it for $66 grand total including all taxes and fees; $10/day is what I bid.

If I were coming from Iowa I'd be driving I-35 unless money was no object. It's a long haul for sure, but besides the traffic in a Texas it's a pretty easy drive if you have people with you to split driving time.

17 hours. 18 beers in an 18 pack. There ya go. Thank me later.
