I don't know- can you really hold a coach responsible for that? Obviously, it is a terrible thing that happened, but I'm not sure how it is his fault?

I agree. I wish it didn't though. From what I read yesterday, the lawsuit says he knowing recruited a player accused of sexual assault who then assaulted a student at Oregon. No hint of a cover-up. in my opinion, not enough to disqualify him from being our coach but hard to hire someone with open lawsuit against him.
He did have an effective use of pictures/graphics to take up space and make it look longer.
Here's how I would do it:
1. Consult with Leath and maybe even Hoiberg and Gary Thomson to develop criteria needed for a new HC.
2. Make contact with these coaches to guage interest via phone conversation: Otz, Hornacek, Prohm, Underwood, Nurse, Altman
3. Pick the three that best fit the criteria you are looking for (that have stated interest of course)
4. Conduct interviews of those three candidates at a neutral location. And let Naz and Niang sit in via Skype.
5. Choose the best candidate for ISU, with input from the players.
I will say that if Hornacek is interested, you can the process and start talking money and staff. No need to interview anyone else if he wants the job.

Leath's input or not. I'll be shocked if our ''nationwide search' that has drawn a surprising amount of interest from candidates around the country ends up with us hiring someone other than TJ Otzelberger.

I like the Robinson name, Tyndall not so much.
Two names that have come up in the head coaching search that I think would be home-run 1-year lead assistants are:
Lavell Moton, UNC-Central
Kareen Richardson, UMKC
It's unlikely, of course, that a head coach would come here to be an assistant, but if they are ready to move up, one year on the bench with a Top 10 team and they would be a really attractive candidate for any openings next year. It's a long shot, of course, but I think they are both future stars in the coaching industry.
Very disappointed to see Altman is the mystery candidate. Very underwhelmed. Have you watched his Oregon teams play? Looked to me to be very undisciplined and arrogant. Not what I'd want representing ISU.
Funny that some are so down on TJ but excited about Altman. He flunked out as K State head coach the first time around. While he's "stabilized" at Creighton and then Oregon, I'd much rather have the potential of TJ then the known of Altman.
First on my list would be Hornacek. Then, TJ and whomever the top mid-majors are - Underwood seems like he might be worth a hard look - has Power 5/Big 12 assistant experience as well - just would have to make sure the buyout is huge re: K State.

This is my opinion only, but I'm sure there are many reasons:
- He has twin little girls, and I think he and Allison are sincere in wanting to raise them in Ames
- Fred had his surgery scheduled and was going to be out for ~3 months. With Matt A gone, they needed someone to fill that gap
- JP knew Fred might leave and having TJ, who has a close relationship with most of the players, on staff would help whatever transition happened
- By coming back he is guaranteed to be a candidate
- Romar probably only has 1 year left at Washington and getting out of there before getting fired is a good idea
My guess is that Pollard sees next season as potentially the greatest in ISU basketball history and he doesn't want to screw that up. My guess is that he sees Otz as the safe hire.
Unless you can find someone to run a wide-open offense and be a relaxed presence on the sideline, there is probably going to be an adjustment period. Do you hire long term, even if it screws up next year? Or do you hire for next year and hope it works out long term? Can you find someone who can do both?

I don't see a name yet that I think could recruit better than TJ. I could see Hornacek for the continuation of Pro Style Coaching with TJ as lead Recruiter.
Names I would get excited for are guys that are already at P5 schools like Lon Kruger or Scott Drew, realistic or not, that is a splash. A mid-major Coach has no experience competing with Programs like KU or recruiting the players we need are as much of a gamble as TJ.
Fred was a unique situation. No one was closer to it than TJ. Fred's biggest success was without TJ on the Court, but recruiting wise Fred had TJ's players. If you want continuation it's TJ. No one has been closer to what Fred was doing and TJ seems to enjoy the College game.
If Tim Floyd would come and run an up tempo offense I would take him in a heartbeat. The guy is a competitor, and I never bought the USC stuff. They threw him under the bus to try and save their football program. Larry would be too good to be true.

Moton would be great! Love that guy! But as you said, I doubt he comes here to be an assistant.
Also, mark me down for TJ as my top choice.
Per Rothstein and others TJ had Pollard's 100% backing before an interview was done with any other candidate.
Also Fred had told Diallo he couldn't commit to being back in April.

The team plays the games. Near term, the coach ought to be a good fit in style and temperament so as not to waste this year and the years leading to it. I'd like to see a coach whose teams play uptempo first and know how to defend.

I tweeted Levell and asked him if he had any trips to Iowa planned, he just LOL'd and said he was not big time enough. I like that guy, and as Assistant would think he would do a great job.
