*** COACHING SEARCH THREAD: Monday, June 8 ***

Nothing says, "commitment to building a program" like a bargain.

My thoughts exactly. It's kind of sickening that the guy wants to take this chance. I bet he's riding the "Well, I was right about Hoiberg!" wave right now.

I'd be interested to hear Jeremy or CW's take, but I don't see any circumstance where the ISU coach makes less than $1.25M.

There are some really silly people on here.

I know less than nothing. But Beilein has no buyout at MU and has experienced Hilton Magic.

Everyone have their hope up in an irrational Kool-Aid-induced frenzy? Am I doing this right?

maybe but the 5 known guys shouldn't make more than a million.

As early as Tuesday? Makes one think JP got his way and we start the TJ tenure of ISU MBB. Does he break $1 million/year?

Why? They have interview 5 canidates over the weekend with general if not specific contract numbers set with their agents before. Pollard and Leath have probably already chosen their top priority, take the night to sleep on and make a final decision and extending offer tomorrow with the coach probably accepting Tuesday or Wednesday. Makes total sense time line wise in all cases not just for TJ.
If there is serious interest from one of the "Mystery canidates" they will want accept to jump quickly too before the rumor mill starts putting them in a bad position.

This is why Gregg Marshall is best case scenario for us. He is kind of a jerk to the media, but the man gets results and his kids bust their azzes off for him. From what I hear Fred is a good guy, but I've also seen a lot of good guys be huge flops as coaches as well. I think the media gave Fred a little too much credit because he was a good guy. Not to say he was a bad coach, but I think they care more about being likable than winning games. This isn't a tea party where everybody needs to get along. We need a winner.

Go Cyclones!

So it's impossible to be both a good coach and likeable?

If Fred wasn't a good coach there wouldn't have been a meltdown over him leaving.

He is a great guy. Media doesn't care if he has the worst resume in the Big 12.

Yeah. I just don't get it. Fine he's a good guy but that means nothing about how good of a coach you are. There's literally zero proof he knows how to be a head coach, especially at a power 5 school.

Are people seriously high?

Savings already earmarked for track and field.

Should and will are entirely different. He probably will make 1.25 or more, which is a ridiculously bad value given what other coaches are making.

I'm softening on my dislike of TJ being the next coach, especially with the known candidates. I'm not really blown away by any of them. Even though it's actually been a quick search, it feels like it's been much longer with the whole Fred Saga, and just like with the Fred Saga, I'm just kind of ready for it to be over so our boys can go out there and have an amazing season regardless of who is coach.

Not what I said. There are a lot of good guys who have become good coaches. But sometimes media tries to tell us the good guys are better coaches than they really are. The jerks don't always get the credit they deserve due to the way they treat the media. It doesn't matter your personality, just win games.

I think maybe you are. If he's hired, it's not based on a resume, it's based on almost 10 years of observing him coaching and being able to determine his strengths based on 1st hand knowledge.

But please continue with your preemptive meltdown...

I cannot believe we are going to do this ******* **** again. Is it written someplace that every day's coaching search thread has to go exactly the same way or something?

Based on what? The job pays what it pays, regardless of what you think the candidates would be worth to you.

those 5 aren't worth that much. Market value.

The idea that a collective "the media" is running a conspiracy for TJ is just asinine. You are truly a fool.

You seriously think his post is a meltdown? Get a grip.
