Anyone see this kid play before? I see his weight and get scared a little. I just hope he is not another Taggart....tall, lanky guy who gets bullied in conference play.

I believe he is considered top 50. Where are all the naysayers that said McD can't get a top 50? Wow, I knew it would be soon that I could rub top 50 in the hater's faces but I didn't think it would be this soon. McD is, without a doubt, going to be the best thing EVER to happen to ISU basketball.

I said I would take my hits publicly when I deserved them, so here you go. I was down on the hire and on the future recruiting. If this is a sign of things to come, then yes, I will eat some crow on this.

PS. I will say it until I am blue in the face, having a different opinion from the prevailing wisdom of the majority does not make you a hater.

Welldone URB. I greatly respect those who eat crow when necessary.

In case you didn't see it in the article about ISU adding the gophers to their schedule, the Cyclones had 6 players leave with elegibility remaining.
I can't stand Randy Peterson.

It's official: ISU lands monster recruit!

ISU has received a verbal commitment from the 37th ranked player in the nation for the 2007-2008 Men's Basketball season.

Despite the local concerns about GMac's recruiting ability, 6-9 215lbs PF Craig Brackins had no concerns when he accepted the offer from ISU over the many other schools that have shown interest for a longer period of time. Thought to be tops on Brackins list before this announcement was Indiana, Pitt, Washington, Illinois, and Clemson.

Craig Brackins leads a list of big-name 07-08 and 08-09 recruits that have shown mutual interest in Iowa State since Greg McDermott took over the head coaching job. While there were a few big-name players showing interest while Morgan was at the wheel, more consistently ranked and quality players have shown interest in the type of program GMac is trying to bring to Ames since the changes this past spring.

Look for more exciting news as the summer gets hotter. There are plenty of offers being extended and Iowa State is being looked at more as a top-tier program nationally than ever before. We might just be reaching a place where we can say the "switch has been flicked" for ISU's Men's Basketball program.

Cy,

Not a problem. Believe it or not, I want ISU to do well! Contrary to what some might think, I just try to call it as I see it. If this is a sign of things to come, then I am happy to eat a whole table worth of crow.

Truthfully, Urb, I don't recall you being down on the McD hire. I was specifically thinking of Discomb when I made the statement above but I don't believe he visits the site any longer.

Great News! I've really liked everything I've read about him. The way some are describing him remind me of a Eric Coleman type player; Long arms, high shoulders, above average athleticism. If Brackens could put on the muscle that Coleman has and combine that with his 6-9 height and presumably better natural talent (than Coleman) than I think that's just what we need!! Not to meantion, he can shoot the three, another plus:)

To those that don't know a lot about Brackins;

He is a monster of a player that would easily have had even more major programs calling in the coming months. He had some grade problems before the previous school year but got everything in-line and realized that he needed to work in the classroom and not just on the court.

Brackins could have gone to any school in the country but chose ISU based on what he feels will be a very magical program in 2-3 years. One thing to remember is that once you land a big-time recruit like this, other top-tier players are more likely to look at your school harder because they want to play with the best and be able to compete right away for playing time.

I'm not saying this makes us a top 5 team but it certainly helps us get a few more committs from equal caliber players for the coming seasons.

I've thought for a long time that if Brackins came through, he would be our biggest recruit ever. I don't say that just because of his high ranking but because of the promise and excitement it shows people all around the country are starting to have in ISU again.

Even though we've had some troubling months, people around the country have never looked at us with as much respect and belief. By bringing in somebody of this caliber, it opens doors that have never been open for us before. Great players will take a harder look at us because they want to play with the best and want to be able to compete for PT right away.

Look forward to more great news as the usually quiet summer heats up.
