Looking to buy a ms250 or 251. Guy at the shop said their basically the same saw. Figured honest opinions were better than someone trying to sell me the more expensive product. Thoughts?

seems to me that if they're basically the same saw, he's not doing a very good job of selling you on the more expensive one.

Well I could write a book about what he actually said. He basically stated the 250 was a "dirty" saw because the 251 apparently is better for the environment. Which means nothing to me in choosing between the two.

No idea about these specifically, but many engine manufacturers produce two very similar engines for their products, one that meets California emissions standards and one that doesn't, but costs less to produce.

For what it's worth, the 250 weighs slightly less and revs a bit higher than the 251. The 251 complies with later EPA emission standards which means the saw is detuned and leaned out on the fuel.

When you are trapped in time, surrounded by evil and low on gas you are going to want the one that is most fuel efficient and weighs the least. Just sayin'.

If you are only cutting wood and not the evil dead just go with what these other folks are saying.

Owning a chainsaw just sounds like one more way to die. Hire a pro.

I have a lightbulb to change that I can't reach without standing on a stool.

Do you have any good electricians could call?

Safety first.

It's worth dying for. One of the best things in life. I remember when my Dad first let me use his chainsaw. I was 27.

I was a tree climber to as far as any branch would hold me. Cut many of branch in my pre-kid-on-the-way life.
