Only 7 cars were eligible this year, and for the first time in several years the Ford F-150 didn't only miss the top spot but didn't even make the list.

  1. Toyota Camry
  2. Toyota Sienna
  3. Chevrolet Traverse
  4. Honda Odyssey
  5. GMC Acadia
  6. Buick Enclave
  7. Cherolet Corvette

To be eligible, a car has to have at least 75% domestic parts content (per the American Automobile Labeling Act, which allows Canadian parts to be counted as domestic parts too...). When ranking the cars, they also consider US sales and where the car is assembled. So cars high on the list are assembled from parts built in the US, are assembled in the US, and are popular in the US.

This is sad

"What is shrinking is the percent of overall domestic-parts content. Five years ago, 29 cars qualified for the America-Made Index. Today it's fewer than 10. Consider the opposing paths of U.S. auto production versus so-called "homegrown" cars:"

Ironic that Chrysler's slogan is "Imported from Detroit" yet they didn't have one car from any of their brands on this list. Their slogan should be simply "Imported".

And yet there are so many idiots driving around the Detroit metro area with the "DID MY PART!" car sticker on their Fords, Chevys and Dodges that didn't even make this list. Not that I have a problem with Fords, because our next several vehicles will probably be Fords, I'm just tired of idiots putting those "Buy America" stickers on cars that weren't made in America.

The reverse is also true. I had an idiot cousin flip lip about my Honda Pilot and I had to inform the ******* that it was built in Alabama with parts made in Tennessee.

My Nissan Altima? Made in Tennessee.
My Pontiac Grand Prix? Made in Ontario.

Guess which the idiots consider the "American" car...

The following are all assumptions: Since the F150 went to the aluminum body they needed to save costs somewhere else. This allowed the Supply Management division to expand the supply base to find the most competitive prices, this increased the number of components now made in American.

I wonder if this will cause enough buzz that Ford will set a goal to source more American made parts on model year updates.

I've had three cars in my life.

*by "made" I mean final assembly/probably the majority of components

My Ford Escort (from the 90s) was made in Mexico.

My Toyota Camry (early 00s) was made in Kentucky.

My Hyundai Elantra (early 10s) was made in Alabama.

I guess we know how to buy (actually) American now. Without bailouts.

Well, technically, Ford wasn't bailed out.

HIGHLY doubtful it will create any buzz at all. People or the media at large would have to start demanding more American parts, and I just don't see that happening. Especially when a lot of people probably still assume FORD = 'MURICA!
