Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...

Agree with all (serously, who's sending the email with a link to this thread?) great guy...horrible, embarassing ritual.

Yelling CYCLONE POWER is all that we need. He can lead us to do that still. The rest of it is no good. It's hard to remember what you are supposed to be doing when you are intoxicated.

It is better than a few years ago

I think that the fans need to take some responsibility for what I perceive to be the problem of which JJ is the answer. A few years ago when we moved here, the stands felt empty at kickoff. And the pregame was really lacking. Granted, it needs to be freshened up a bit so that it doesn't seem so much the same everytime. However, I really appreciate the way that JJ has taken the lead to get some energy going before a game. I consider him to be a big part of the solution for a bigger problem than a few of us being embarrased.

You know those instances in life where you are so embarassed for another person that you, yourself, get embarassed? Everytime JJ does this my face gets red and I have to look away. New regime, time for a new pregame. Maybe leave the band on a little longer, play some music to get people hyped up...even let the student section lead the same cheers JJ was doing...but his schtick has got to end.

Haha, yep, I know exactly what you mean. "Secondhand embarrassment". I too suffer from this affliction.

I'd be curious to know how many of the people embarrassed by Jeff Johnson also loooove Sweet Caroline between the 3rd and 4th quarters. :skeptical:
I hate both equally. Keep Sweet Caroline at Fenway Park, and keep JJ in the stands where he belongs.

This whole joke of a pregame has gotten tired. Its pathetic and needs to stop. I don't mind the "Cyclone Power" as much, but the rest of it is lame and it drags on forrrrrrrrrrrever. If the Athletic Dept. wants us in our seats earlier, then they should give us something a little more exciting then a demonstration on how to say the words I, S, U in a clockwise motion.

The cherry on top of this debacle is when it's like game 11 of the season, and they still run him out there for the whole bit. After 5 home games, and 2 years worth of previous instruction, don't you think we've got it down by now? I can't stand hearing him tell me "The team needs my help today, so I need to be really loud" Haven't we proven that these pregame cheers have zero effect on the game at all? Leave the cheerleading to the cheerleaders and give the man back his dignity and his seat in the stands would you please??

it makes us look like bad/dumb fans because it appears that we NEED someone to tell us how to cheer. . .

and how bad is the CY, CL, ON, ES, CYCLONES, CYCLONES, GO STATE! cheer. that will never work. to long for 55,000 people to say in unison

IF we must play "sweet caroline", do it after the game. it totally kills the jacked-up feel of football

the only thing he does that needs to be fixed is when he yells into the mic. while the cheering is going on haha. but thats just how pumped and amped up he gets. when he is at mens bball games i look over to his season tickets seats and thinking to myself where is jeff johnson?? then i look a few rows in front of me and there he is in front row of the students section because thats how much he loves isu. hes a good man and the band and cheerleaders get their time so i think jeff should get his before the game.

I'm a good man and I bleed cardinal and gold too (season ticket holder despite living in Austin Texas), so can I get 5 minutes to yell at everyone in the stands too? He's a great guy, but I'm with most everyone else, I'd rather he didn't lead cheers. Although, like I've said several times in other threads, I will support whatever the players think will help them, if the team says JJ stays, then I say JJ stays too.

Corollation

I wonder if there is a corollation between people who like to post on a free football forum and people who don't like to be led in cheers by someone on the field. Seriously, when I go to a game, people seem pretty into it, even though most of the posters here don't seem to like it.

More importantly, just because I don't like something personally doesn't mean we shouldn't do it as a crowd. For instance, the trend for students in the student section to stand all through the game is carrying over to young alumni who stand no matter where they have seats. I don't want to stand through the whole game, but sometimes these guys are right in front of me. On one hand, I wish they would sit down. On the other hand, these guys are showing a level of support that is commendable. I don't know the answer, but do know that my personal preference isn't what should make the difference. Imagine if 45,000 people were standing through the whole game. That would make a difference on the field because it would raise the intensity in the stadium.

It was scaled way back last year to the point where the only two things done were Cyclone Power and Aerobics. Yes, the year before was absolutely ridiculous with the CY-CL-ON-ES crap.

Assuming we can get a Cyclone Power chant going before every game, I'm all for Jeff Johnson no longer coming out. I'm not a fan of it period, but our pre-game has been kind of ridiculous overall since the re-do.

You know what else I hate? The lines in the field. On...and those goal posts...ick!

Seriously...I know Jeff Johnson could be better...but damn...you guys sure complain about a lot here lately.

You're complaining about our complaining.

It's an embarrassment as many on here have said and is one of the reasons why everyone in America seems to laugh at our football program.

But yeah, it would probably be better to just leave it be so we don't appear whiny.

I have been thinking the same thing for years. I cringe everytime they start the cheers. Get some loud, up-beat, energy-creating music to get the whole crowd stirred up. Then the energy will continue for more than five minutes.

When you bring a guest tot the game and they have to ask "What is this?" yu know it is not a good idea.

All I know is, if we were to EVER appear on a nationally televised game, I'd be humiliated for the myself and the school that I love so much that this would be on there.

Iowa State football is already fighting a massive uphill battle, both on the field and in the perceived appearance of our program. Showing the country, and other fans, that we "need" someone to come on the field every game and teach us how to cheer makes it even more devastating.

Yes... It's because this forum is free. :jimlad:

The only correlation I've been able to spot around here is that people with low post counts generally make brilliant observations such as the one quoted above. You are but a single data point in the big book of futility.

But at least you did it for free

Sorry, but he is actually driving fans away from their seats because no one wants to see the embarassment that is JJ pregame.

If the intended purpose of JJ's forced cheers is to promote fans getting to their seats earlier, then it is having THE EXACT OPPOSITE effect for me. I will purposely walk into the stadium as late as possible to avoid being a part of it.

People complained about this one the year before too. This topic is not new

this point is also missed.... why cheer when the team is not on the field? Who cares then.

Its about as stupid as how the loudest points of a game at Hilton are always during timeouts after a big play and then everyone sits back down when the game starts again.
