Can't Wait to see Jeff Johnson...

Some of you say let the band take over and do more, how many of you are even thinking of heading to the stadium yet when the band goes on the field.

I don't like the cheers but I dislike them even more when the students take over and in the drunken excitement they rush it...badly, to the point that it all gets slurred together. Not a lie, just an observation that makes it sound even worse. At least at eiu they have enough coordination and such to get the i-o-w-a out and it actually sounds good since the students don't start their part while the opposite corner is still doing theirs.

Re: It is better than a few years ago

Sorry, but he is actually driving fans away from their seats because no one wants to see the embarassment that is JJ pregame.

If the intended purpose of JJ's forced cheers is to promote fans getting to their seats earlier, then it is having THE EXACT OPPOSITE effect for me. I will purposely walk into the stadium as late as possible to avoid being a part of it.

These.

I would agree that people would jump on board if the student section started the cheers like the Clone Zone during BB games. So students, get things going before Jeff hits the field and maybe we can stop this rehearsed cheerleading that overwhelmiingly is hated.:arghh:

Even if JJ isn't doing anything before games this year, people still won't be in their seats before kick-off. People didn't show up to their seats before him, aren't doing it now, and it won't change if he isn't there.

In all seriousness, I have it on pretty good authority from a buddy that worked for the Alumni Association (and has worked with Jeff) that he is in fact expected to do this, and that JJ himself thinks it's kind of ridiculous. It's not his idea to be doing this. Now that "Cyclone Power" has caught on, it's unnecessary for him to be out there.

Agree. Unfortunately, it is mainly due to our own late arriving, tailgate crowd that something like this was necessary. Embarrassing that our team would have to come out to a half-empty, quiet crowd (students exempted).

But the program has been "successful" in the sense that CYCLONE POWER will now be struck up without any prompting.

It has run its course and should be shelved.

It would be really cool if The Rhoads Era had a unique and enjoyable pregame.

By the way, the Florida Gators have Mr Two bits and his pregame shinnanigans are just as terrible.

First, what JJ does for pre-game is barely appropriate for a high school game.
Second, having JJ doing this is like having William Shatner trying to sing the national anthem. It's just not his gig.

Actually, I think you have stumbled on to something - celebrity cheerleaders. I for one would be in my seat screaming my *** off if we could get the "Shat" in one time to cheer in his best Capt'n Kirk delivery, "Cyclone"..........................................................................................Power"

Each week get one B or C level celeb - Like they do for the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley for "take me out to the ball game. Have a fundraising tailgate with them b/4 the game.

Yes - this is all coming together!

I like the way you think, nbc! Captain Kirk IS from Iowa ... so why not?!?! Then James Earl Jones, he was in Iowa for Field of Dreams, then Kevin Costner, he's been around here some, then Kathy Griffin, just because she's D-list. I'm liking it

JJ confirmed yesterday that he is all set for his pre-game routine on Thursday, and for the entire season.
Go Cyclones!

We've established that 95% of Cyclone fans do not like this...so my question is, why must it continue?

I'm a big fan of Pollard, but I really hope he listens to the majority on this and stops this nonsense.

That number has been established? I've seen people whine about it, but it's been in the minority of the people that I talk to. Most people don't care one way or the other as they just ignore him from my experience.
