That game is meaningless. It's not a benchmark
Not saying he is - I was just using what Snyder did as an example. We can hope, can't we?
Maybe the question should be how much can we pay him and the assistants if we get to 8,9, or 10 plus wins? With TV revenue it seems we are in a much better comparative position than we were 10 years ago. If we are successful, with potential realignment, we have millions of incentive to pay a coach to keep us in a "power" conference.
ISU had a chance to hire Billy Bob Snyder and passed and hired Jimmie Dean Walden instead....which of course was a monumental mistake..........
Let's just hope Campbell can do something this fall that Mac made a regular habit of - beating Iowa. Last year's game was awful.
Most years that game can make or break your bowl chances now with the round robin Big 12 schedule. If this program wants to make a bowl game let alone have some 8 or 9 win season the Iowa game is a must win because going 2-1 in the non conference means winning at least 6 in the Big 12 to get to 8 and most years that is not going to be an easy task
Agree totally. If anything, with our Big 12 schedule, the Iowa game (esp at home) has gotten even bigger. Most years that game can make or break your bowl chances now with the round robin Big 12 schedule. What BS. Not the Hawk fans I know - and I work with plenty. Instead of "mocking" ISU, they just want to beat us too. Breaking news: most if not all of them want to win the ISU game more than any other.Haha, goodness, right on cue.
Prime example of why Iowa fans mock the ISU fanbase.

Oh but they're not on message boards, so...
I think it's more that if you look over the past 20 years, the Iowa game is one of the 'easier' games on the schedule when you look at the W/L record. If we want to go bowling this year, this is a game that will help a lot in getting there. Not saying they don't see it as a big game, but the mentality that something like the Iowa game is so vital because it's assumed that the conference slate is going to go badly is the 'Super Bowl' mentality and needs to stop.
Well, if that is the team's mentality, then I agree. But I have no idea if that's ever been the case. Not saying they don't see it as a big game, but the mentality that something like the Iowa game is so vital because it's assumed that the conference slate is going to go badly is the 'Super Bowl' mentality and needs to stop.

If that's the fans' mentality, it's irrelevant. We're not on the team or part of the coaching staff.

When is the last time (and I do not know the answer) we exceeded .500 in league play? Cleaning up in non-conference is key. I believe, truly -- and it is a belief -- that we can defeat eiu most years once our program is stabilized. Why?
Because we are competing against the Big 12 conference, not the Big weak western division (sorry, I do not know what it's called name-wise). If we can compete well against our league brethren, we will win most games with eiu.
Earle Bruce was an Ohio State grad, had played for Woody Hayes and then had coached under Woody Hayes for 6 seasons. Ohio State, with it's current position in the college football world, it's access to the state which is in the top 5 states producing D1 players, the top 3 in football revenue, and it's status in the B10, can hire anyone it wants to. I just don't think Campbell will be a candidate absent ripping off 10-12 win seasons at Iowa State.
I agree, I would think Ohio State would go after a bigger fish or someone from the NFL similar to what they did with their latest basketball coach respectively. I would consider places like Wisconsin, Michigan State, or Tennessee to be more realistic landing spots for CMC instead of the blue bloods like Ohio State, Michigan, or Notre Dame.
