So much factually incorrectness in this thread. It would really help if people knew what they were talking about before spouting off.

My bad. Tense was incorrect. Here is the text of the findings of the District Court:

Mr. Palo is a fifth-year senior who has used his “red shirtâ€￾ year. His eligibility to play intercollegiate
athletics as a basketball player expires at the end of the
current basketball season. “Irreparable injuryâ€￾ will occur
to Mr. Palo if not allowed to return to the team as his
time is short and there is no “next seasonâ€￾ concerning his
eligibility.

Whoever the University's legal council is should have their head examined. This was an easily avoidable situation and the University and Athletics Department together turned it into a PR nightmare.

And that is essentially my problem. The DM Register had an interview with Bubu where he more or less said, has Leath issued his ruling 5 days sooner, Bubu would have accepted it and moved on to another school. This whole thing is on Leath who waited to make his ruling, and with all the facts I see, he waited so ISU's APR was not hurt.

You are wrong. The appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court has nothing to do with Bubu personally or Basketball in general. It has everything to do with whether the court has the ability to stay a university decision pending judicial review of that decision.

So if Leath gets what he wants, what happens?

ISU's APR wouldn't have been hurt. Bubu would have left in good academic standing. Sometime over McDermott's tenure the rule changed so that leaving in good academic standing didn't hurt the institutions.

Do you know this for fact, or are you guessing? Also, if Iowa State has evidence they are holding onto that would criminalize Bubu, don't they have to submit it the County Attorney as they are a public university? The charges were flat our dropped on Bubu, the County Attorney could refile charges with new evidence...

So youre saying if he decided to transfer away it wouldnt hurt? the only way it would of hurt ISU is if Bubu was suspended or just flat out failed to graduate?>

I am guessing. It doesn't make sense the amount of resistance that Bubu is getting when other athletes have gotten by with similar or worse things.

That is why I think there are other issues at play

Along these lines, in 2005 the NCAA formulated a tool called the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for Division I schools.18 GSR basically removes athletes who leave an institution in good academic standing from the denominator and adds those who transfer in and eventually graduate to the sample.

Regardless, why not make the decision in a reasonable amount of time which would have allowed the transfer.

I think in the end, Fred is gone for the NBA due to this. Last week, Leath and Pollard basically forced Fred's hand to not allow Bubu to play with that statement. I believe them not allowing Fred to run his own program is going to be what pushes the NBA over the top.

It would be so typical of stupid Iowa State to lose our basketball coach over this. It literally makes me sick. I've thought for a while that Hoiberg likes the idea of the NBA a lot more than some of us would like to think. So if he gets ****** off, he'll have no problems bolting.

Pollard would not survive that.

He wouldn't? The AD who has in his time at ISU managed to double the athletic budget, built a new basketball practice facility, built a new football facility, built a new sports complex for smaller sports by the towers, is pushing through the South Endzone project which has been talked about since the late 70's and never been done, is a highly respected AD among his peers, and the guy who was the voice of the Big XII AD's during the conference realignment mess? Ever heard Dodds from Texas defer commenting to anyone else on any issues besides declining to comment on Big XII AD discussions and directing all questions to JP? Anyone know who is credited with developing the fiscal plans at Wisconsin that have led to major budget increases, major facility upgrades, etc... that have now shown themselves in the Badger's rise to a higher level of athletic success? I'll give you a hint... He is the current AD at ISU. Strange how things have improved dramatically since he arrived at ISU right?

People are losing their minds over this and forgetting the credibility that a guy like JP has earned over his relatively short time at ISU. His impact on the ISU athletic department is off the charts.

Exactly... because in the NBA coaches run the entire show and don't have to deal with front office people, GM's, owners, etc...

Of course, what Bubu said is exactly what you say in the PR battle. Plenty of people "would have made the right call" in hindsight.
Maybe Bubu would have transferred if things happened a week or two earlier, maybe not, but hindsight and PR play a role in those statements now.
