Re: Register Exclusive: ISU asks Supreme Court to keep Palo off men's basketball team
Can this ever end, FFS?
Can this ever end, FFS?
Good lord some of you are really freaking out about this. It obviouslly became a p oltical ******* match a long time ago. My problem is that the Acuser, who obviously has some clout, never has to come foward. They are taking action against a student and don't even have to show thei face, they are the cowards causing the problem.
The distraction of this is much worse than the benefit of adding Bubu.
Remember, Leath cited the university athletics code of conduct as reason for Bubu's dismissal. The standard is definitely lower there than a legal standard of being beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. He may have been dismissed for reasons altogether different than those the district attorney charged him with. We don't know. Leath has declined to say, citing privacy. But considering this athletics code is presumably being selectively applied, it opens the door for the kind of legal squabble this has turned into.
I'll make it more clear. If this goes to trial, which now looks very likely, and the trial becomes national news, as it will, then it "will" have bad repercussions for ISU athletics as far as recruiting players and coaches. Our president and a.d will be pitted against an ISU athlete who is not only innocent of any crime, but is a two time academic all big 12 basketball player. I've explained why it would be bad for coaches and recruiting in a prior thread, but there are other reasons I'm sure I haven't even thought of.
Quote from the motion:
"The Board of Regents seek interlocutory appeal of this ruling on the grounds that it was an abuse of discretion and erroneous as a matter of low for the court to direct who should be a member of the Iowa State University men's basketball team, irrespective of what the Board of Regents, the President of the University, the Athletic Director or the coach believe to be the best interests of the University."
Wait, we're losing Fred because of something he agrees with?
Huh? That's just general wording in the motion. Fred invited BuBu back on the team, he's been at practice and I think he's also now listed on the roster. What part of that makes you think Fred agrees with what Leath and JP did/

But if the court directed ISU to have Bubu join the team, Fred didnt have much of a choice
After the circus that has now been created by Leathe's decision, who knows what Fred really wants. But the players made it clear they wanted BuBu back, Fred's a player's coach, and he immediately invited BuBu back, not delaying as he could have. Once BuBu was eligible last year he was immediately back on the team and quickly incorporated into the rotation. Think what you want, I think Fred wanted him back, but with the circus that's now been created, who knows what Fred's really thinking. Maybe he did have no choice, it's all just such a travesty of justice and waste of taxpayer money, maybe a lot of taxpayer money if punitive damages are awarded because of the way Leathe has handled this.
The judge has not decided that. They judge stayed the dismissal while the case is being heard.
Yep. Fred was thrilled to get him back last year, and he had nothing but great things to say about him all summer long. So why wouldn't he not want him back now? Bubu hasn't done anything else wrong since this summer to change Fred's mind.
Fred might not come out and say anything in support of Bubu right now because his superiors wouldn't like it, but deep down I'm sure his feelings towards Bubu haven't changed.
