Bowl Hope

That FG against Toledo is coming back to bite us in the ***. Thanks CPR for not centering the ball.

We had to play Iowa in a year they're top 10 (granted that's inflated with their schedule but still they are solid whether you wanna admit it or not). We had to play Toledo (undefeated and ranked now). We had to play Okie State, OU, TCU, and Baylor.....yeah if we go 5-7 you damn well better be pleased with that.

I agree with this 100%

My thing is, if we go 5-7, we can pretty much blame some horrid play-calling, horrid preparation and a horrid coaching decision as to why we are not going to a bowl game. I would actually be more upset if we went 5-7 then I would be if we went 4-8 or 3-9.

Agreed. The Toledo game and the Iowa game really **** me off. Even with the play calling and penalties in the Toledo game, we missed an easy FG to win it. And that Iowa 2nd half...SMH.

But if we go 5-7, I'm fine with Rhoads keeping his job because its a very fine line between 5-7 and 7-5. That said, I don't think we get there.

Would people really want to turn down a bowl game? Why? If the system allows us to go to a bowl game, why shouldn't we go?

Paul Rhodes [sic] has been 6-6 for all three bowl games. Is that really any better?

It's not a lot better, but it is of course better.

I can just hear the announcers going on all game about how Iowa State is 5-7 and isn't it crazy they get to go to a bowl game?

Anyway, it's not going to happen and if it did, I would want them to accept the invitation for the extra practice time, but it would be embarrassing.

If you find that embarrassing, quite honestly, you're an arrogant fool. That's not to say we should go to the opposite extreme and tout our "bowl" season....but we do accept it as an opportunity for extra work, and as a sign of real progress competitively. Being 5-7 is its own burden, and being invited to a bowl game doesn't make it somehow worse. Seriously, if we achieve a 5-7 record with this schedule...likely to be the single toughest schedule in the nation...than we take it thankfully and are proud of our guys for getting there.

Some of you need to get over yourselves.

We didn't see those extra practices offer us much in development the other times. I'm not buying that as a reason to go to a bowl at 5-7.

Another game for Lanning to start? That's enough reason for me. I've given up on this season but that doesn't mean I've given up on the future.

Am I the only one that keeps reading the thread title as "Bob Hope"? Except the content of this thread is 1000x times funnier than Bob Hope ever was.

At the end of the day, it would be another opportunity to watch ISU play. We only get 12 days a year to watch ISU football. I'd happily accept a 13th. That's good enough for me.
