Bird Migration and Misc Birding Thread

Not my image. We have many Mountain Chickadees living in the wooded reserve behind us. Sometimes they will venture out; however, they seem to know when my camera is set up and they avoid the dreaded camera.

What you have there is a nest that has been parasitized by a cowbird. Cowbirds don't make their own nests or raise their young. They lay eggs in another species' nest and then the cowbird babies (which develop quicker than other bird babies) eat all the food from the parents and/or kick the others out of the nest.

Nature is often cruel, and this is an example of that.
