Killing time on a drizzly day waiting for 2 pm doctor thingie and going over some photos from last month. Since everyone loves owls, here's a Great Horned Owl owlet in a big silver maple nesting cavity. It fledged the next day (was the last of the owlets to leave the cavity) so I almost missed it. In a Twin Cities area park.

Up on the Mississippi near Harper's Ferry. Neighbor texted that orioles had returned, so I put up feeders and, since I read on here that hummingbirds were as far as Des Moines, put one of those feeders out as well. Sure enough, 1st hummy visited today!
A lot of orioles and gold finches as well.

Beautiful bird. "Not my image."
Went out with daughter for an hour or so Saturday just north of Story City in the Skunk River valley. Daughter had heard a rose breasted grosbeak numerous times but never saw one. We not only saw one very high up in a tree but I was also able to snap a terrible phone pic. Here is a zoom of it.

Daughter was stoked. Also had a catbird following us around.

Saw a Tennessee warbler for the first time in my back yard. He usually comes during the peak migration period.
Also saw this , any ideas who this is?

I have seen hummers come close to the house.
We've got a huge lilac next to our deck right out of our back door. They hang out all the time in the lilacs, even when we're sitting on the deck.
