Last Saturday we spent a few minutes watching the swallows skim up and down stream over the Skunk River catching bugs in the waning sunlight. Such accomplished flyers and hunters...Just saw my first barn swallow. They must migrate south for the winter?

What you have there is a nest that has been parasitized by a cowbird. Cowbirds don't make their own nests or raise their young. They lay eggs in another species' nest and then the cowbird babies (which develop quicker than other bird babies) eat all the food from the parents and/or kick the others out of the nest.Uhhh.
