This is a big week for ISU sports with the MBB team playing at Drake on Wed, WBB playing IA on Wed, both playing on saturday and the big wrestling meet on Sunday. I thought we'd have a thread covering the weather predictions since it looks like it might be kind of messy...

Here's the latest from KCCI on Tuesday at 9:45pm...

The next chance for snow is Thursday in central Iowa. A slight chance is forecast for Thursday morning, then Thursday afternoon there is a 60 percent chance of snow. Some 2-4 inches is currently forecast.

Then Saturday a mostly cloudy day brings a 50 percent chance of freezing rain and snow with a high in the upper 20s. The snow/freezing rain chances continue, a 40 percent chance, into Saturday night and into Sunday, another 40 percent chance of snow is forecast.

Let's not forget that our men's hockey and women's swimming both take on Iowa on Friday. The swimmers are in Ames at 6pm; hockey is at 95KGGO (the Bucs' arena) in Des Moines, probably at 7:05 or 7:30. Go support one of them! You can witness Cyclone victories over the Hawkeyes four out of the next five days!

I read the thread about winter in Iowa and this gets so cozy, so I had to go check the weather and I realized this! I love it, it is so cozy. One thing is for sure, Iowa State fans are going to make the trip no matter what unlike EIU where they'd not show up!! Great to be a cyclone!

I forgot about that but didn't mean to! I'm actually planning on going to the hockey game if everything works out right. Go State!

Snow is expected in the morning and then again in the afternoon, an 80 percent chance. Right now, snow totals are expected to be 4-5 inches. There is also a 50 percent chance Thursday night.

Friday, there is only a slight chance of snow.

Then Saturday snow is back with a 50 percent chance of freezing rain and snow. Sunday, the chance continues with a 50 percent chance of freezing rain, snow and rain.

I have been looking forward to this wrestling meet for a year. I wanted a rematch as soon as the last one was over. If anybody thinks that a few feet of snow and ice are going to stop me from being there, then you've got another thing coming. I would be rather upset if something came up and I wasn't able to make it or it was postponed.

Yes, I know I said feet.

Just too bad they're restricting student entry to the wrestling meet... it's possible the students are going to need to make up for the crowd that can't drive through the ****

Well good thing I plan to go to Ames early Saturday to do some shopping I guess. Wouldn't be the end of the world if I get stuck there either, it has been a long time since I've been out in Ames.

Where's Wx4Cy and his wife when you need them? We need a Batsignal.

How about we get rid of the Weather Beacon and go with something like this?
He can be summoned when we have a question about the weather.

Sorry about the quality.

Did you find a way around this? I thought you were blocked.

Was the the CF Signal that brought you?

It will NOT snow I am telling you, I have not gotten to use my snowblower yet, so it probably will not snow all winter.

If we get as much snow as we are supposed to get it will be fun to see everyone trying to park come game time. I know parking was a mess in the commuter lot for students on Monday. Two lines becoming one, lines splitting, parking rows gradually making their way all the way over to the next parking row. Craziness.

Looking at the models, I'd say 3-5 for this Thursday isnt out of the realm of possibility. Look pretty likely to me. Now the models I've looked at for this weekend show a mix of precip in the southern 2/3rds of Iowa or so, so predicting snowfall there is more difficult. My gut feeling is that the GFS is making the storm too warm and that this weekend will be be a 5-7 inch storm.

The weekend storm is a little more uncertain because the models seemed to have shifted from tons of moisture and temperatures right around freezing to colder with less moisture. Need to give it a couple more runs to see if some real consistancy happens.
