Most of the time, I don't give a damn who beats who in the whateveruwantocallit conference. But, I must admit that I had a blast watching Bo P blow up yet again, and then getting his butt kicked on top of it!!! That guy has as much class as a high school drop out!!

As for the rest of the whozits in the conference, I guess that I'm upset/jealous about all the money they get for playing an inferior brand of football, all because of the number of TV sets in their part of the country.

NU will never be happy unless they can dominate and bully all the other schools in the conference, and that won't happen where they're at now, either. Maybe they should join the Big East and try to restore some respectability there, just not academically.

In conclusion, I do think that we came out much better with WVU and TCU as replacements for the defectors and, when the time is right, we'll add a couple of more to re-establish the Big 12 as the premier overall conference in the nation, both academically and athletically. I just hope I'm around long enough to see it and enjoy it.

It'll all work out in the end. The cream always rises to the top, (and numerous other cliches).

Reestablish? When was the B12 ever close to being the premier academic conference?

This. For the BCS conferences, academic rankings are as follows:

1. Pac-12
2a. Big Ten
2b. ACC
4a. Big 12
4b. SEC
6. Big East

Is this just your opinion or do you have a link? I have a hard time believing a conference with ASU, Washington St and Oregon St would be better than the ACC or B10.

Look, I get it. Iowa is in the Big Ten, and ISU fans hate Iowa. No brainer.

What I don't get is the over-obsession by quite a few people on here with the BIG. I guess I just don't get the mindset of treating an entire conference as an opposing (or favorite) team.

Personally, I was happy with UW's loss (especially the way it happened), because Iowa and UW are rivals. I don't want them to win a Rose Bowl. Ever. I was hoping Sparty would lose, because, well, I hate Dantonio. A lot.

Especially if my favorite team doesn't contribute to the strength of the conference.

Just my opinion.

A lot of ISU fans like the big 12 and will root for the teams in "our" conference outside of when they are playing against ISU. They have no attachment to the BIG10 other than we play a team from it in our state every year. the conference gets a ton of attention and love nationally but has performed at a lower level in comparison to Big 12 and SEC (everyone has to SEC lately.) It's not a hard concept. its a hyped up league that isn't as great as advertised. that's what it is about. and being a hawk fan ON A CYCLONE WEBSITE, posting that it must because of our "obsession" with iowa is just ignorant. GTF over yourself. There are a few fans of ISU that are obsessed with iowa, but there are just as many iowa fans obsessed with ISU. I see hawk shirts at ISU games (non-ISU/iowa game) where the Iowa fans will be rooting for Okie State (for example) against ISU. I would NEVER wear ISU gear and go to Kinnick and root for a big 10 team against iowa. obsession goes both ways and if you think it's just ISU, well, you're ridiculous.

If some iowa fans HATE the big 12 and root against the conference, I would completey understand it and not care about it, why do you care so much about this?

Not doubting, but would like to see a link. I'm shocked that the ACC would be anything less than second, with schools like Boston College, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Duke, and UNC.

That's my opinion. Stanford, USC, UCLA, Cal are all very high-tier universities, Washington isn't bad, Oregon is okay.

The state of California is what carries the conference, though. I won't deny that.

That was just my opinion, and I had the ACC tied with the Big Ten for second.

From what I've read here, I think a lot of this frustration is misguided. I don't hate the Big Ten. I hate the broken BCS system that systematically puts money ahead of athletics.

Way up there
The Big 10 is basically the same as Notre Dame, full of arrogance and self entitlement because of things that happened decades ago. Just because you think your relevant doesn't make you relevant. Just like the ND the biggest reason to hate on the big 10 is that year after year the product on the field is ignored because of dollar signs.

Do Iowa fans think they are rivals with UW? Everyone I know who goes or went there says they didn't know they were rivals until a hawk fan told them

Wrong.

Horrible Big Ten losses this year (teams ranked below 85 in Sagarin):

-New Mexico State
-Army
-Minnesota
-Rice
-Minnesota
-Ball State
-North Texas
-North Dakota State (ranked 48 in Sagarin but an FCS team)

Horrible Pac 12 losses this year (teams ranked below 85 by Sagarin):
-Sacramento State
-Colorado
-Colorado

And just for fun horrible losses by Big 12 this year (teams ranked below 85 by Sagarin):

ZERO

Call this "hate" if you want to, I call it simple truth that certain people conveniently ignore.

Wow.. nice work!

Based on a quick look at the latest USNews college rankings, I would say it goes

1. ACC
2. Big Ten
3. Pac 10

Oregon, Arizona, Arizona St, Utah, Washington St and Oregon St are all ranked below the lowest B10 or ACC school.

Call it the tebow effect. I hate hearing all the media blowhards trumpetting the big 10 when the product they put on the field is crap.

I grew up in big10 country, and was even a big10 fan (minus Iowa and tOSU) growing up. Now I have respect for Pat Fitzgerald and Northwestern, but thats about it.

I like that the big 10 still runs the ball a bunch, but you can't deny that there is no way for teams like that to keep up with teams like okie state.

You do realize the Georgia Tech-Iowa match-up in the Orange Bowl still got better ratings than last years Fiesta Bowl(which featured Oklahoma), right?

And, you think that was somehow because of OU? Why did you not expound on who the other team was, and what their record was, and how small their football fan following was?

Why would you not include the facts that it was a team that has no fan following for fb, and they sold no tickets for the game, and that they were 8-5.

Hmmm....I wonder why you didn't include all of those FACTS???

Oh yeah, now I remember, it's that you couldn't attempt candor here, because it makes you look even stupider (really tough to do in your case).

Uconn played the role of the hawks in that game. Much like when the hawks play LSU, or USC, or Fla. the tv ratings received for that game are because of the other team.

If Uconn would have played iowa, the ratings would have been HISTORICALLY low...
