Better times coming?

Confirms what I've always thought. Recruiting took a hit in '10-'12 because we weren't even sure if we were gonna be a power 5 conference team. Tough to recruit with that weighing against you. Now that our existential crisis is over, recruiting has gone up. It's not a miracle, but it's progress.
Will recover swag by 2020.

That theory is going to be put to the test next September. If there isn't some positive buzz around the team going into the season I think you're going to be proven wrong about fan attendance.

First of all, Jack Trice is undergoing an expansion. And we play 3 home games in our first 4 games. Against UNI, Iowa, and Kansas. Probably sell out all 3 games. With 2 more home dates after October 3, against TCU and Texas. Beautiful tailgating weather.

That is all positive right there. IMO, and the opinion of most, ISU will be improved next year. Demond Tucker and Leath are huge additions up front on the Defensive Line. And that does not even include all the guys that return from injury.

Stay home if you want. You will miss a great home slate. And the home schedule is half over by October 3. Those wanting to wait will find that the ship will have sailed without them.

Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me three years in a row... you can't get fooled again.

So you are not going to watch Iowa State Football in the newly expanded stadium next year?

I have been a Cyclone Fan for over 45 years. I am not going to miss it. And yes, I am hopeful for next season. And as a Cyclone fan, I have been kicked in the nuts many, many, many, many times over the years. Which makes the times we are not kicked in the nuts, a very special time.

I've got blue balls from all the cold weather, missed field goals, tornadoes, rain, blizzards, waking up from being passed out at a couple UI games in the 80's, and missed extra/2 point conversion (hell I would have went for it to), games we were favored to win, and all the coaching changes, that I still go after all these years. I will be renewing mine. Love the tailgating atmosphere all. Pretty nice to be able to tailgate with less than a five minute walk to get into the game!!

Why buy expensive season tickets, when they will be going for $10 outside the stadium? That's the part I will never be convinced to buy season tickets. And I didn't get them this year either.

I understand what you are saying but ISU has all different price points for season tickets to purchase. Many of them very cheap options in my opinion. The schedule next season is much better from a timing/ weather standpoint as well.

I know. These new ISU fans start thumb sucking with the first couple kicks to the stones. Man up. Wear it like the badge of honor that it is.

I became an ISU fan in 1978 and it was 22 freaking years after that season before they got more than one game above .500 for the year. Some people love winning, and some people love ISU football.

Amiright?

Our recruiting doesn't have to improve a whole lot to avoid the 2-10 seasons. Just need to keep the upper classmen in our program healthy and out of trouble.

Yeah, but it does need to improve a lot to win 8 or 9 games ever or 6-7 consistently. Avoiding 2-10 should just be expected.

Nice somebody put numbers to what we have been saying for awhile now. The current team was just bereft of upperclassmen and talent after the senior year of Knott and Klein. That all came down to recruiting and, more than anything else, the near collapse in our whole athletic program to a mid-major status. Now we have stability and we are back to a more competitive position.

The money is flowing. Facilities are better. Hoiberg gives everybody a reason to stay connected to ISU. I think Rhoads can coach up to an acceptable level given our historical and geographical disadvantages. Having a local who wants to be here means a ton to me and so many in the fan base. We've got Richardson for another year with Mangino. Things are looking up after a little patience.

Long as next year...
-don't lose to UNI
-remain competitive
-compete for a bowl game

...I'm good.

No problem. As long as you don't mind missing UNI and Iowa games for sure. Iowa game has a $95 face value. And quite likely miss the Kansas game as well. You might pick up a $10 game in November. And that is not a definite thing that will happen. Personally, that is my least favorite month for games. September games are my favorite.

Some people will choose to go to only a game or two a year. That is fine. For really cheap tickets the team has to do really bad plus weather usually has to be crappy as well. You have had it good the last couple of years for that.

After looking at the ESPN Insider recruiting rankings a little more closely, I'm starting to get a good feeling that we might turn the corner next year.

2010 - 28 commits; 7 ***'s
2011 - 27 commits; 7 ***'s
2012 - 21 commits; 13 ***'s
2013 - 25 commits; 1 ****, 22 ***'s
2014 - 25 commits; 1 ****, 23 ***'s
2015 - 16 commits; 1 ****, 14 ***'s

The staff seemed to make a marked improvement in 2013. That was the Lanning, Campos, Cotton-Moya, Meeks, class. Those guys were obviously RS FR this year.

Help is on the way. This staff is clearly working very hard on improving the talent. We're getting closer to seeing the payoff.
Did you recently ingest some peyote?

I have to admit when I read the last sentence of the OP I read playoff not payoff

Can you share the rankings from our conference brethren?

There are JUST a few of those great athletes that are no longer with us. Either graduated or (more likely) kicked off or walked away from the program.

Plus I would assume our recruiting must be compared to the other programs and my thoughts are other programs have NOT been standing still and are still above and beyond what we're starting to over-hype as "good" recruiting years...

If you ignore the rest of the conference its pretty good.

Thankfully you're not in the living rooms with the coaches trying to convince these kids and their parents why they should come to Ames.

BTW, we are the only program in the Big 12 that's improved its class weighting year-over-year during that time period. That silly observation clearly means we are not making progress.

You are underestimating the secondary market. Even when we are mediocre there are plenty of people selling cheap tickets. There might be 1 game a season where demand is so high you can't find a cheap ticket. Add in 5-19, another 5,000 tickets on the market, and they will be dirt cheap in 2015.

I doubt I go to a game anyway. Personally, the in-home TV experience is highly superior to the stadium experience.
