Everyone, I'm heading to Des Moines this weekend to spend a weekend with my inlaws. Its been a while since I've spent much time there, so I'm looking for what the best restaurant in all of Des Moines is right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

That blows.

In all seriousness, what kind of place are you looking for? BBQ? Pizza? Fancy?

I asked a very similar question on Facebook for this weekend and the overwhelming majority of people had Centro on their list. Apparently the pizza is fantastic and you can't go wrong with anything else. I've never been there, but plan to change that tomorrow.

CW also lists a few of his favorite places in the mailbag.

I don't know if it's the best, but Ranallo's in Ankeny is kind of a hidden gem of a restaurant in the Des Moines area. Italian and Steaks. Very good place.

This is an impossible question but a few of my favorites

Latin King
Centro
Django
Flying Mango
801 Steak

IMO, Des Moines is great for Italian, BBQ, Steak. There are tons of good options in each category.

If you are looking for something cheap and nostalgic, go to the High Life Lounge and order the Hot Beef. You will not be disappointed.

"weekend with in-laws" is key phrase. I'd suggest El Bait Shop as they have over 100 beers on tap. Large quantities of alcohol should help pass the time.

If you want good food, I'd second the Latin King

I'll second Ranallos in Uptown Ankeny. Order the steak oscar. You can thank me later

yeah, I've yet to have anything but an amazing meal, every time we've gone there. And it's so tucked away and nondescript from the front of the building. You feel like you're in on a secret when you go there.

Their creamy parm is maybe the best salad dressing I've ever had. You can buy a pint to take home, and then eat it with breadsticks, salad, etc. of your own choosing.

J Benjamins is great. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but they have great food and an awesome owner.

It may be called Simons now.

Took my now ex-gf to Splash as a surprise, we absolutely loved it. We had an appetizer and two meals for around $80 (no drinks).
