With all the ups and downs of the last several months I found it pleasantly surprising to see this:

And yes, I acknowledge I'm having a hard time completely ignoring ESPN. But it is interesting to see them include us in this list.

Uhhhhhh,.......isn't the Athens of the mid-west missing?

If eiu and UIHC were elsewhere, IC would be..........a sad Ottumwa.

Any other comp's?

Yeah, but that's probably true about a lot of places. I mean, without Iowa State, Ames would probably be a worse Nevada.

I'll vote for Madison throughout the bracket because I love Madison (and think it is a good college town), but something that places like Ames (which I also love) or Pullman have is that they really are college towns. Baton Rouge and Madison are the state capitals. They would be fine even without the universities being located there

I think Madison is about as fun as a football Saturday gets in sept or oct.

it has the best of a really small college town, the best of a bigger college towns, and the surrounding area is beautiful in fall

Lincoln is a similar size school and city with little of that charm for comparison.

I am biased, but I completely agree; I love Madison and it is absolutely gorgeous. And it still really is a college town which is awesome.

One thing it doesn't have is the massive lots for tailgating which Iowa State does and which are really cool. I think that's something that does make Iowa State special

Agree, Madison is phenomenal. I lived in College Station for 2 years and it is nothing compared to Madison. Ames has a way better gameday than College Station.

This is awesome - love the company we're in!
Thanks TwinCitiesCy for the Cut&Paste! I'm still in my mini-espn ban. I won't click on their stuff unless I absolutely need/have to, until further notice.

I like that the author actually seemed to know things about Ames.
