Here nor there
Chuck Offenburger wrote an article on the state of the old ISU baseball field. I do not really understand his gripe. If it is not in use, is it that surprising or dishonorable to not spend resources on it?

I'll agree, it's sad. However, do we maintain a shrine to what once was or do we maintain facilities still in use? I think Cap Timm Field may need to see a bulldozer.

Where is the ISU Baseball Club playing at? I thought they were using Cap Timm?

Even if ISU is not going to field a baseball team anymore it would be nice if they could find a use for the field such as maybe Ames High taking over and maybe doing a joint venture in the upkeep or something?

Man, in 2003 when I played club baseball with the guys who still remembered having a program, they/we took really good care of that stadium.... Through my four years there, I remember it just getting more and more delapidated. It's sad. I wish we could bring it back. I know we could be somewhat competitive. Somehow...

Agreed - doesn't make any sense to upkeep a facility that won't be used. I'm a bit surprised they didn't remove certain things, like the scoreboard, and put them in safe storage or even try and sell them off. Perhaps they did.

However, I think all Chuck is saying is that it's rather sad to have such an eyesore immediately next to an active facility like the softball complex. I'm sure we'd all put up a stink if something looked like that situated right next to Jack Trice.

Perhaps turn it over to the horticulture dept and create the Capp Timm memorial gardens? Better yet - move Reimann over there and give us our parking back! :jimlad:
