Are we mad?

The picture of Fran at the end is hilarious. The whole thing is real intense, and then at the end there is a guy with a seriously goofy grin.

When it comes to marketing, most of the stuff out of ISU is typically about a forty bazillion times better than the stuff Iowa puts out. This is one of Iowa's better efforts, even if it is somewhat disjointed.

Holy heck...this is a horrible effort by Iowa. Worse slogan ever.

What's the funniest is if the shoe was on the other foot Iowa fans would be running crazy ragging on ISU fans if we put out crap like this.

"Let's Be Mad Again"...:biglaugh:

There have been worse slogans. It isn't the greatest, but it shows a concerted effort by the athletic department to market the basketball program, and market it aggressively, and I can't say that I've ever seen that - and I turn 30 next week.

Fran has been on every major sports radio station in the state this week, and then took out this ad today in every major newspaper. If the goal was to get people talking about Iowa basketball...

And this one stinks just as bad. I understand as a fan you're trying your best to like it but Matt and Miller were dead on today ripping on it. All kinds of momentum going with Fran's hire and a week of him really growing on the fans and then they end the week with this crap.

If Barta was smart he'd scrap the website immediately and try his best to have this forgotten before next season.

I said it wasn't the best way to go about it, and I said that twice. Unlike Matt Perrault, nobody had to explain to me what it meant. To me, "mad" could have meant playing with a chip on your shoulder. Everyone will interpret that in their own way. I'll take the opinion of Matt Perrault on pretty much anything with a rather large grain of salt.

I fail to see how a slogan that (admittedly) doesn't have the clearest of meanings is going to stop Iowa fans from being excited about coach Fran. I can't think of any fan saying to themselves "gee, coach Fran really grew on me over these four days, but this website isn't particularly appealing to me, so even though I know that Fran had nothing to do with it's design or content, I'm no longer excited about him being the heach coach." I can't really see that happening. Maybe Matt Perrault can, but I can't.

To me, this ad campaign is more about getting people excited about the program and back in the building again as opposed to getting into the tournament next year.

I think it is good... I don't care for the "explanation" i think it stands better on it's own... but some Hawkeye fans need to be told exactly why they are mad... they can't figure it out on their own.

This is just a hair above the K-State Power Towel promotion. Very cheesy, although it was close to being not too bad.

LET'S - forget that the men's basketball team at Iowa even exists when they aren't winning.

BE - d-bags.

MAD - "it is short for madness. which is also short for march madness." Seriously??

Here we go - AGAIN.
:biglaugh:

I don't feel it'll kill any Hawk fans perception of the new coach. Just as far as a PR campaign it was a gigantic fail. Just admit it sucks and move on.

Iowa's never been in a position where they have to sell a mediocre product before, either. Compared to some of the stuff that U of I's marketing department has put out in the past, this is pretty neat.

Never? Really? They've always been great at everything?

Whatever!!!! Appeared and sounded like some current internet truck commercials. I'm sure this guy is a good coach and will get everyone fired up during this honeymoon period which is normal for a new coach. He still has to compete against the Big 10, which despite my hatred, is pretty good in basketball.

I wish Pollard would get mad and fire our coach, NOW!!! In my opinion, Iowa State basketball is a disaster, just in case anyone didn't know that.

That's actually a pretty sweet promotion.

You have got to be kidding me??? Did you watch the explanation video!??? Probably the lamest/dumbest/goofiest/funniest/embarrassing promotion I've ever seen.

HAHAHAHA in the video, they describe the words "LET'S" and "BE" ...hahahahaha that has to be a joke right!???

A special thanks to the Iowa Athletic Department for overshadowing any embarrassing promotion we've ever done.

From that site, click the link entitled "What does MAD mean?" I actually laughed it was so cheesey.

When you read this, use a dramatic voice:

"Let's" - Everyone needs to get involved. Hawkeye fans, friends of hawkeye fans, blah blah blah....haha.

"Be" - We won't try, we will be. OK?

"Mad" - This is a term for the madness that is the month of March. Seriously?

"Again" - Iowa was a regular participant in the NCAA tournament at one time. haha.

Sorry, this is just really really dorky. It almost reminds me of a preview for a spoof movie.

THIS!

I was embarrassed for my suckeye friends after viewing it. I hope that somehow gets to youtube...pure gold.
