The Ames Fire Department is reporting a structure fire at 230 Campus Ave. Radio traffic indicates that the fire is burning through the structure roof. More information as it becomes available.
3:48 p.m. Fire teams are doing a search on the second floor of the building.
3:52 p.m. Radio traffic says that the fire has been knocked down and firefighters are looking for hidden hot spots.
Text I got at 3:30.
"Hey could you check on my pizza rolls? Gf just got back from yoga class."
I work for the property management that manages 230 Campus. Fire department has it under control and management is on the scene!
You don't have to be a firefighter to tell someone this is bad:Just walked by it like 2 minutes ago, looks pretty bad (but I'm not a firefighter).

A two year old could tell me that is bad.
So this thread reminds me to recommend everyone get renters insurance. I got it after an acquaintance's house burned down and he was left with nothing. I'm paying an extra $14 a year, and have everything I own covered. If my dog bites someone, I have coverage, if my car is broken into(again, for the third time) my stuff is covered.
The guy who rents that apartment is probably screwed, and the whole building will probably be unoccupied for a couple of days.
Where'd you get that deal? I thought ~$100/year was the common rate.
Edit to add: Great point about having renters' insurance, though. Definitely worth the money.

I called the company I use for car insurance. The rate is about $100 a year, but they discount the car insurance rate for having more then single coverage, the discount on the car insurance was about $86 a year.
If you are under a certain age and in college isn't your stuff covered under your parents homeowners?
A storm fried a computer I had in college when I was a senior and State Farm let me get any computer up to $2500 I wanted minus a deductible.
