Spend a bunch of time up there in the summer, but winter doesn’t appeal to me…but if you’re into ice fishing…
My sister and husband owned a fishing cabin on East Lake. Tore it down and built a new home retired for 8 years there and then sold it. They bought on Lake of the Ozarks. Said it was so much colder up there than south of highway 30 where they lived in western Iowa. They reversed the season lengths, they say. I see what they mean.
It’s been a few years but used to frequent the area a lot growing up. It always seemed like it was really dead from late fall to early spring, and utter chaos during the summer. Driving anywhere there during the summer used to be horrible.
The DOT expanded 71 last year to include turning lanes and some 4 way traffic. People come up here because of the water clarity which is unmatched. The Ozark water doesn't compare to the Blue Water here. The walleye opener last week drew over 2,000 contestants and a gal hooked a walleye worth over $40,000. The bite has continued this week with frequent limits. The PMTT musky championships were held a few years back and shattered every musky tournament results in the US. 78 muskies with 76 of them coming off Big Spirit. Their summer concert season includes Foreigner , Wallflowers and numerous country bands . Some are free and you can watch\listen from your boat. Iowa Great Lakes are soooooo improved over 5 years ago.
@Okoboji Musky what are the walleye limts/slot?
West Lake is beautiful. I spent a spring break doing a Reno project on West and it was cool to be on a roof looking down and seeing fish like an aquarium.
