Incyte- Re-read my post. My post had nothing to do with whether Morgan was a good coach or not, but a response to khaal53 regarding returning players and in a roundabout way, the apr issue. Sorry about mis-spelling Blalock.

The Assoc. AD claimed in an email that the Jiri ordeal resulted in a loss of a scholarship.
 
Another coach gone and McD still here

Seton Hall fired their coach in his fourth year and he actually had a winning record and went to the NIT.

Meanwhile we have an AD who has a blind allegiance to a coach apparently because he hired him. Pollard and Stupid Gary Thompson both said that they expected noticeable improvements this year. Thompson said this year will be the first year of continuity with players staying in the program and recruits coming in. Well they were completely wrong. Not only did we still have a losing record we still don't have continuity with all the people who left. After four years you can't keep blaming Morgan. He also said that the fan support is still there, so if people keep continuing to go the games to watch a crappy product apparently that is enough for Pollard. Pollard apparently only thinks about the money. He also basically said that only people who purchase season tickets are loyal fans and then he said “I know there’s people who post things on the Internet and all that, but those people don’t pay the bills.â€￾

Even if you give McD a pass for his first year and count this as his third year it doesn't make sense to keep him. He has done nothing to prove he can coach Pollard has proven that wins don't matter to him as long as people keep going to the games. Which is why he won't fire McD and why he was ready to give Chizik a contract extension after not doing crap.

I just don't get how other schools are letting their coaches go after 3 or 4 years and we are stuck with McD

You realize he got fired for off the court problems don't you? It had nothing to do with their record. I'm sure if we had guys punching other teams players in the nuts, it would be a different story.

They lost confidence in him.

Well, I am not sure where we are at but I know we have little confidence that the situation will significantly improve to reach a tournament.

Thank Goodness we finally have someone post that Greg Mcdermott should be fired. I was starting to think nobody would make a thread regarding this issue. We need to put somebody in charge of starting threads everytime a coach get's fired saying "This coach got fired and we still have are coach" threads.

So if Colvin punches someone in the balls, McDermott is gone? I'll volunteer to take the shot.

As an ISU fan, I'm used to taking shots to the balls.

Is it possible, from now on, that when a coach is fired that a poster who wants to make reference to ISU's situation will just add to this thread instead of starting another?

Halfway kidding, but there will be a lot more coaches on their way out (some with better records than Gmac's) between now and the end of the NCAAs. Not that I disagree with the analogy, but it gets really, really old.

JP could not get rid of McD even if he wanted to. Pointing out every single other school who fires their coach will not change that.

do we really need one of these threads EVERY ******* TIME a coach is fired?

Here's the link to the article and some key quotes, read them carefully:

The article makes clear that he was not fired for his record, but rather that he and the team were not behaving up to the ethical standards that were set forth. NO COMPLAINT like that has been made about McDermott.

It's completely justified to think McDermott should be fired based on his record, but he IS NOT going to be, so ******** about it constantly and comparing it to every single other coach out there is completely useless and pointless.

Yeah, that was a recruiting effort to remember. I remember Haluska missed twenty straight threes off the rim. Good times.

Probably what happened was he walked into JP's office and said that he is entitled to three years but he would rather take the losses all at once (or at least over two years). JP said that was fine as there is no reason to handicap the program just for McD to trigger the three year extension. Thus, McD and JP probably have an unwritten mutual understanding that he is entitled to three extra years even though the terms of the contact might say differently. This understanding should have been made explicit in a new contract that clarified the situation but for whatever reason it hasn't been.

Who is entitled to make the decision about whether to spread out the scholarship losses or take them all in year one, the coach or the AD? If it's the athletics director, then JP should not have "given" McD anything.

I don't expect anyone to have an answer to this question (I think both sides have good arguments), but it's another layer in the analysis of this contract.
