You've been here too long to actually believe this.
Just trying to set the table so we can transition to better things in this glorious holiday season. Like bowl game wins and recruiting successes. Most importantly, I am not leaving no matter who the head coach is. I am a ISU supporter for life. Please, no sick supporter type jokes. :) So, everyone relax! I know deep down all of you were afraid I would leave if CMC did. Your WORRIES are unwarranted. Merry Christmas!

Even the blue bloods aren't immune.

Oklahoma and ND are about as high as it goes and they still lost coaches. This is a wild new era. We'll have these types of off-season conversations as long as we have a good coach.

In these type of discussions I'm always reminded of what Phil Knight did for Oregon and what Boone Pickens did for oSu. If you have the right booster, AD, and coach you can very nearly "buy" championships. Wild new era indeed.

It all comes down to money and it doesn't matter if you are a blue blood or not. USC spent more than OU will. LSU is going to pay way more than ND. I wouldn't be surprised if Oregon (Nike) tries to outbid them all. With the NIL and the transfer rule, money will be even a bigger component and the teams with the most will have the best shot at future National Championships. It makes the next TV contracts even more important.

BTW totally agree that my "anywhere" comment was way over reaching but to the schools that would poach him from ND they would be offering a lot of cash.
You were completely wrong.

What’s the list for DC’s at $3 million for next year? $4 million?

He’d take the job of the coach he just lost the ND job to, and likely make more.

Whether JP wants him that much is unknown for the same reasons ND may not

But, 'next time' may roll around again...and again which becomes a 'pattern' and will eventually have an adverse effect on recruiting. So, what I'm saying is swing the pendulum hard enough that people 'trust' you'll stay.
I hear ya, but CMC is so different on recruiting than most I have dealt with in the past. You just want to and do believe him when he says something. He is Sheriff Taylor. YA, IM OLD.

Campbell can’t be lost for money. ISU can’t afford that. I think Jamie realizes this as well.

If Notre Dame/Under Armour come with $8-9M, Iowa State can't match that. It's just reality.

It doesn’t matter if we can match it. He’d take ND for less than we are currently paying.

But for jobs other than the 3-4 dream jobs, we sure as hell need to match.

I disagree. If offered an interview, Matt's going to probably interview. Pollard knows this and understands the reality. If Matt doesn't get the job, whether he decides the timing isn't right or ND decides he's not the guy, Campbell's going to coach his ass off at ISU. Pollard's going to continue to appreciate Campbell as the great coach that he is, and keep pushing ISU athletics forward. I think Campbell and Pollard are pretty open with each other.

But if you think Campbell is going to be half-assing it with a wandering eye, I don't think you have a very good assessment of the guy. He might interview. That period will be a distraction to some extent. But if the decision is made by either party and Campbell continues to coach ISU, then he'll be right back to grinding. That's what he does.

There's a big difference between a guy looking to leave to the best thing he can get vs. this situation, where seemingly one of the jobs on Campbell's ultra-short list opens.
This.

Difference with many coaches is that they’d consider taking any job that was higher profile or paid more money. Campbell has a short list of ND and OSU. He’s already supposedly turned down USC for god’s sake and look what they just paid Riley.

Would be devastated if Campbell left, but really could not blame him. The ND job does not come up often. And there is no question he left this football program better than he found it.
