I'd be shocked if McCollum left Drake after 1 season. He stayed DII for several years, winning 4 national championships.

Not great examples, but that's all we've got. I think Stirtz would be a good player at the P5 level regardless. He'll follow McCollum to Iowa City or wherever. I don't think either are back at Drake next season.
Stirtz is a good player. Not the most athletic, but very steady with the ball and really good instincts and vision. He reminds me of Lipsey, some, in how it feels like he knows where the ball is going to be before anyone else does. Good shooter and never gets emotional. Gets to the FT line a lot (many times via bail out when he drives, but hey…still ends up on the line), and he knocks them down.

Just an overall, solid player. I think most coaches would love to have what he brings to the PG position.

Here is a name ISU needs to keep an eye on... 6'10", good shooter, from Wisconsin, and a decent to good rebounder.

Tamin, TBD SG, Milan, Jefferson, and Feddersen would be a great 5 out offense and provide good size.
This guy appears to be the same type stretch 4 as Pleta (German kid).

Guard is a bigger need than a 5 with Jackson most likely coming back and Rock hopefully sliding into Chatfields role.

I am hoping Toure' will be the next great Cyclone point guard. I believe he was a very under the radar recruit that can tutor a year under Lipsey, then help our offense evolve towards the European ball movement style that BYU is also developing.

By the way, I think we saw the new Big XII Kansas basketball replacement a week ago in BYU. They have unlimited money, to go with fan support, quality players, and coaching. I think they are the ones we will be chasing the next few years, at least.
As long as Sampson is at Houston, I think that is who everyone in the Big 12 will be chasing, unfortunately

Nojus is big, stronger and more athletic than Pav.
Maybe Nojus leaves.
Maybe he fills Jones' role next year, offense off the bench (with Heise starting).

I'd be happy if Nojus fills Nate Heise's role next year- complimentary scorer and jump shooter off the bench. But he may have a long ways to go from a defend and rebound standpoint vs. Heise.

Momcilovic is the guy I will be most interested in this off-season. Obviously, I hope he stays- but you never know what kids are thinking or the money that some team might pony up. But it seems to me that TJ likes a 3 guard lineup and Momcilovic's role with ISU in 2025/26 might be more of a 4 than 3. If that's the case, he needs to work on his body and mid-range scoring in the off-season.

Gotta believe TJ's two priorities in the portal will be scoring guard and above the rim post whose strengths are rebounding & rim protection.

Our 3, 4 and 5 all return, doubt Momcilovic is playing the 4 over Jefferson.

It seems like TJ has his guys and you are either one of those guys or you are not one of those guys. My guess is Nojus probably transfer down a level to MVC, Summit, or MAC where he will start immediately. I would also expect DWat to transfer somewhere similar. St. Thomas in the cities is an emerging power in the Summit and he'd get good minuets there for sure. Rock seems to like it here but I doubt he ever sees the floor. He is very slow and is a massive defensive liability.

IMO we will see a lot of Momcilovic at the 4 and Jefferson at the 5 next year. Obviously, both players can slide down a spot if TJ wants to play bigger. Seems TJ feels our defense/offense is at its best with 3 guards being the dominate lineup combination (aka Lipsey, Gilbert, Jones).

Look at Big12 mpg this season. Sure Jackson started, but he's 7th in minutes. And the Jackson/Chatfield combo only played 33 of 40 minutes at the 5 this season.
  • Lipsey - 33.6 mpg in Big12 games
  • Gilbert - 33.9
  • Jones - 32.1
  • Jefferson - 30.9
  • Momcilovic - 28.0
  • Heise - 21.6
  • Jackson -18.1
  • Chatfield - 15.1
Also depends on who the staff can add in the portal this spring. I could see them satisfied with Jackson, Jefferson, Momcilovic and Rock/Portal Guy splitting the 80 minutes 4/5 spot next year.

It would be interesting to hear TJ and staffs after-the-season thoughts on Chatfield's minutes. When they signed him, did they think he would earn close to 15 mpg?

After watching this guy grab 18 rebounds last night, might as well throw him in mix. You'd think this guy would find a new school for next year.

The name didn't ring a bell even though I saw UNO play ISU this year and I figured out why. Against ISU he went 1-5 from 2, 0-2 from 3, 1-3 from the FT line and had 3 rebounds.

Right, it's very simple. They need a ball handler who is good enough defensively. Nojus has struggled mightily with both in spot time.

This is less of a call-out on Nojus and more that this team really needed a true backup PG. Same problem as last season. Jones and Gilbert can do it, but they both play significantly better when they aren't playing that role.
Did you hear Jones talk about how he has been a PG everywhere he has ever played so it was a bit of an adjustment for him not to be the PG here?

Having 6-5 to 6-9 guys everywhere from the 1 to the 4 with a couple of legitimate forwards and a couple of guys coming off the bench in that same range, AND nearly all of them being legitimate threats from deep is a tough lineup to defend. The length to be able to pass over the top and ability to switch on everything on defense is a heck of a recipe for success.
