When Nojus was playing more often in non-con (including Maui) he looked very capable on offense, shot just wasn't falling. TJ has made it very clear that he cares most about defense, which is probably why Kade has been getting more PT of late. If Nojus can get up to speed on defense, I think he could be a very good player for us next year.
The fact that TJ gave him minutes early in the season is a positive sign for me. Get him in the weight room and concentrate on his defensive game this offseason and I think he can still be good.

Seems like a lot of people are confused with what Gilbert actually does for us. When he's out, we need help at the point, not at the 2. Thus Kelderman over Indrusitis.
Yeah, I hear you.

The problem is if someone doesn't know the vast difference between what a 1/2 and a 2/3 is asked to do (and the skill sets required to do so), they probably won't appreciate why we wouldn't want Nojus trying to spell Tamin when Gilbert is out even if he was an all Big 12 2/3, which he is not currently.

I look more at body language on the bench, and I've seen him actively (sometimes even vociferously) encouraging his teammates. That to me is more of a key indicator.

I hope he stays and works his tail off this Summer to become an elite defender so he can see more minutes as his offensive skill set is definitely Big 12 level.

Who knows though when some middleman with promises of $$$ from a Big 12 or SEC school chirps in his ear.

Just look at this way, every college team is going to reshuffle the deck every year now. (at least the one trying are).

With the upcoming tournament the phrase "these guys grew up together" can be forever retired to the history books.

I’m hoping multiple year contracts come.

That would allow staffs good in talent identification and development to gain an advantage, or at least get compensated when a more wealthy program buys out the contract. Albeit it likely hurts the middle-class, which we are a part of

Not following guys for 4 years is a loss, but overall free agency has grown interest imo

Remember how relatively dead the spring used to be after the season was over? Or how you often pretty much knew what to expect for the following season, good and bad?

The GM nature of recruiting is more fun to follow than reading into the actions of 14 to 17 year olds

When Pavs stepped onto the floor I always thought he looked so little.
I'm pulling for Nojus, I think we all are. Probably just needs to add some bulk.
Nojus is listed as 6'5" 200 (bigger than all our guards minus Heise). I'm sure he's getting stronger but I don't think this is an issue. The key is improving on defense.

Yeah the Pav comparison is laughable. I had high hopes for Pav but once he was on the court he looked tiny. Nojus has much better Big 12 height and length than Pav.

Here is a name ISU needs to keep an eye on... 6'10", good shooter, from Wisconsin, and a decent to good rebounder.

Tamin, TBD SG, Milan, Jefferson, and Feddersen would be a great 5 out offense and provide good size.

I keep seeing Pavs this year...every time I turn on an Iowa game and see Harding drive into the lane, pick up his dribble, and have nowhere to go with the ball.

Jackson will be starting at the 5 again next year.
And that leaves 20 minutes for available for other players at the 5

He’s right that Tamin, TBD SG, Milan, Jefferson, and Feddersen would be a great 5 out offense

There’s minutes for that lineup too

Right, it's very simple. They need a ball handler who is good enough defensively. Nojus has struggled mightily with both in spot time.

This is less of a call-out on Nojus and more that this team really needed a true backup PG. Same problem as last season. Jones and Gilbert can do it, but they both play significantly better when they aren't playing that role.

I agree with your first point, but on the second, I think having Lipsey/Gilbert/Jones as the point rotation has been pretty awesome.

I am hoping Toure' will be the next great Cyclone point guard. I believe he was a very under the radar recruit that can tutor a year under Lipsey, then help our offense evolve towards the European ball movement style that BYU is also developing.

By the way, I think we saw the new Big XII Kansas basketball replacement a week ago in BYU. They have unlimited money, to go with fan support, quality players, and coaching. I think they are the ones we will be chasing the next few years, at least.
