Bruins seem mad

This is exactly why All Star Games in the other pro leagues are a joke - no team is going to be happy with serious injuries to players they pay tens of millions of dollars to as a result of playing hyper competitive exhibition games that mean absolutely nothing. As awesome as this Four Nations Tournament is, this is exactly why the other leagues don’t do stuff like this.

Agreed, one major injury in these and shut down. I’ll be curious how the NHL handles this as it is a successful tournament, with consequences to NHL teams.

The Four Nations Tournament clearly means a **** load to players and fans alike.

This is not a normal all star game.

The US government and US hockey team are not the same thing.

I loathe the current administration, but I'm watching sports to forget about that crap.
When it’s national teams, you’re going to have a hard time separating it.

And that’s fine. I personally am just not feeling super “USA USA” right now. Especially when it feels like some of the players/staff are doubling down on the current feud.

Also, right now it kind of feels like we are the baddies. Some people can find it really fun to be the villains (see raiders fans, eagles fans, and patriot fans). I just don’t get the same enjoyment out of it.

I just try and separate my feelings for politicians and administrations from my feelings about a place in general. I understand many people can't do that. I just can't be in some place where my love of country is determined by who won the last election. It's possible, IMO, to love something, want the best for it, but also acknowledge it's faults - but again, I get that's just not how a lot of people are wired. I love America, but I'm disappointed in it's voters and angry at it's government all the same.

I have 0 problem with Canada booing us. I encourage it, frankly. I still want to kick their ass in hockey.

You don't feel like cheering the US right now, all good. I can get that and no one has to participate in support them.

Actively cheering against the national team, that I'm probably not going to find myself on board with in this situation.

My wife’s Canadian and thus our kids are dual citizens, so I’ve got extra incentive?

Ultimately I’m in my chair at home, it doesn’t matter who I’m cheering for other than to me.

I was born with dual citizenship and still have quite a bit of family in Canada (hence my opinion on the geopolitical situation).

That makes me want to beat them in hockey all the much worse, so I've got bragging rights next summer.

Sure it means a **** load to the players and fans. But do you think the Bruins give a **** about that when they're a point out of a playoff spot and they just lost a key contributor for an unspecified amount of time because of what amounts to an otherwise meaningless All Star Game (no matter how the players and fans feel about it)... especially when the Bruins pay McAvoy's paycheck?

Sports exist in the way they do today because of the fans. This is one of the most captivating things hockey has done in years. The NHL players and owners agreed to this knowing the risks, they can’t have their cake and eat it too.

I think it's more like the teams had little to no say in this and they "agreed" to let their players go because Bettman told them to. If the teams had their say the NHL All Star Game would resemble what the NBA and NFL do, and none of their players would participate in the Olympics (ESPECIALLY when the Olympics cut weeks out of the middle of the NHL regular season).
